Can anyone tell me what the factory recommended spark plug gap is for a 1979 F-150 460 is. The original valve covers are gone on mine so I cant just read it from there. When I use search I get all kinds of different opinions, but, not what ford called for on the 79's. I am told that all years of 460's are not the same gap (different types of ignition etc). Anyone with factory valve covers that could possibly read em for me? Thanks.
Thanks guys. I know it seems a bit nit picky but this is something I want to know for sure. I have been to auto zone and other sites as well. I get more than one answer depending on the site. I get many postings like Bullitt390's which are appreciated. I also get postings that say .025, .035 etc should do it. I know it works with the .044 I am currently running. Curiousity has overwhelmed me, and I must know what ford had posted on the decal. I may have to make a trip to the wreckers and find an intact 79.
I agree with bullit390. If it works good now at .044 I wouldn't change it. If you shrink the gap to .025 you will have a smaller spark resulting in a slight loss of power.
I am not planning on making it smaller. I simply want to know what Ford put on the valve cover. I have many ignition changes etc on my 460 which will affect it and stock settings wont work as well. This is purely for my own information. All I want to know is stock settings.
Haha! Good one Doosenberry.
Thanks for the pic coastr. Really completes the old thread.
Is that a CA or FED sticker? Seems to be Federal, but not sure.
And is that date listed showing '78, or '79? Looks like '78 so I thought I'd verify. Should be the same between the two years, but you never know.
And last, is that on an F350 or bigger? Reason I ask is the "Non-Catalyst" listing.

The original valve cover sticker on my 1976 F-250 with a 460 engine also shows a gap of .042-.046 and spark plugs ARF-42. (California truck). This will likely be the same for the Duraspark II system used in 1979.
