Door locks - WD40 isn't working - Major problem?

I have researched in the forums about the WD-40 spray fix but that isn't doing anything. I think I have a bigger problem.

1. The lock/unlock switch is not working on either front door. There is no buzzing sound like they are even trying to open.
2. The door ajar light stays on constantly.
3. The 2 remotes I have, do nothing, even after new batteries (lock or unlock)
4. When you open the doors (any of the 4) the interior light doesn't come on.
5. The dome light comes on after you turn the key off but the radio stays on after you open and shut the door. Until the time expires on the battery save and then it turns off.

I have checked the 30amp maxx fuse for the system. It is still good.

Is there a control module that might have gone bad?

It wouldn't be so bad if I could manually unlock the door to get in, but the drivers door has been jimmy'd from a break-in and the key will not turn in the door. So the only way in right now is to unlock the passenger door and reach thru.

Thanks for your help.

Might be the GEM. It's a black box located behind the glove box. Look in my gallery for a picutre of what it looks like. The photo will be of it disassembled but it should give you and idea.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...172538&width=2

The photo is of the circuit board only. As I mentoned above, the GEM is a black plastic box. The circuit board is located inside the box.

Simply unplug it and removed the screws holdig it place. Once you get it out, it comes apart very easily. The cover is nothing more than a snap together deal. You should be able to figure it out. Anyhow, take it apart and get a loook at the circuit board. Mine was corroded in a couple of spots and it caused my 4WD control to stop working. The GEM controls all kinds of things ont he truck and I am almost certain that the door locks/chimes/radio shut-off are included in the list. If the problem is your GEM it should be readily apparent when you get it apart. You can get a new one for around $160.00 or so new. You might get a better deal on one at a bone yard.

Pull the battery cables for a minute or so then hook them back up. This clears to modules. Might work and it's easy enough to do but I would not expect much.

Thanks for the idea - I have already tried that thinking the same thing and it did not work. I thought maybe there was a reset switch on the module or a short out the terminal idea to reset it.

I guess I will be pulling the module out and see about getting it replaced or use a fix and change out the door locks, so that if this happens again I can use the driver door lock to get in.

Thanks again for the posts.

Please post the solution when you are done. It will help the next guy when he does a search on this same problem and finds this thread.

Have you found a solution to this problem yet. I'm having the same problem (door ajar light stays on and the radio and lights do not shut off with ignition off and door open). I've tried spraying with WD-40 but no luck. Today I moved on to testing all of the door switches at the VSM. They are all functioning correctly. I have not pulled the GEM. If it were the GEM would there be other systems malfunctioning?

Trevor found these links for me - maybe they will help you as well.
I have not been able to spend very much time on this, but I will post the end result.

Maybe and maybe not. Depends on what part of the board got smoked. In my case, it was the 4x4. The GEM controls so many things that it's hard to tell what will go bad if there is a problem with it.
