I have a 2002 SD and my cruise control is working but my light doesn't come on. I'm assuming that the bulb or led or whatever's in there is bad. My question is it a changeable lamp or do I have to tear the dash apart, unsolder lamp, resolder lamp and put everthing back together. Or can you reach the lamp from under the dash and remove it by hand? I really don't want to have to tear into the dash just to replace a lamp I don't need but I'm the type that doesn't like stuff that's not working properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated...
I would say if you've got an '02 that you have the light, and I'll bet its just burned out, I have no idea as to how to replace it, may be someone else knows?
I remember someone saying something about the 99 PCMs didnt have the ability to light that light even though the dash had the light. Unless you have a 99 PCM in there for some reason I think the light is just blown. Im not too sure but I dont think you can reach it from underneath or that you would want to if you could. Ive been under there and theres no telling what you would be pullling. As long as its working I would just say the hell with the lamp. Not worth all that trouble IMO.
In my 2000 all of the bulbs are the same. About a year ago, I noticed that the WaterInFuel light didn't past the start up test. Took out the cluster to reach the back and tested the bulb -- it was OK. So I cleaned the printed circuit pads for that bulb and reinstalled. It work. So, guess what, I cleaned all of the other pads as well... a gentle rub with a pencil eraser is all that is necessary. FYI I couldn't find replacement bulbs at the local AZ, Ck, or NAPA. The dealership had them at just under $5 each....
