Tilt Wheel???

This subject just prompted the most unbelievably biggest "discussion" in my place of employment. A coworker searching for a truck passed on a deal because the truck did not have a tilt steering wheel. Being a fairly large guy looking for a Toyota (hey...I'm still working on him)truck, he said tilt steering was a must. Now I had to stop and think "do I have tilt steering on my truck?" Turns out I do, but do not ever recall moving it from the position it was in when I bought it. Seems to be a 50/50 split around here. Either folks got it and never use or they got it and fiddle with it constantly. Both sides are thinking the other are idiots (obviously a slow day at work.) So what do ya'll think about tilt steering?
I know how my mom feels...I can still hear her saying " leave that alone...you'll wear it out and one day it'll fall off in your hands."

Tilt Wheel???

I didn't even know I had it until a friend's dad said "Hey, ya know some of these tilt when ya pull back on this here." And lo and behold, I had tilt. I played with it for a second like a new toy, then put it back to where it had been and haven't touched it since.

Tilt Wheel???

I go through phases, sometimes I won't touch it for weeks, other times I just can't get comfortable and adjust it for a week straight.

Tilt Wheel???

I like having tilt until I get it set where I like it then I wish I did'nt have it. Everytime someone drives it(repair shop etc.) they move it. It seem like days before I can get it back where I like it again.

Tilt Wheel???

Tilt steering is most times an "optional" item. If you have it, you'll more than likely have another lever, directly behind/below your signal light switch. Just pull it towards you and you can then change the angle of your steering wheel.

Ya know, dad4dds brings up a point that bothers me too...getting back your vehicle from some sort of maintenance/service, just to find your seat adjusted, tilt wheel adjusted, rear view mirrors adjusted, radio staion and volume adjusted. I'm sure some of it is done for safety sake, but it always takes me a while to get everything back the way I want it. Doesn't Lincoln make a memory option for all this? That would be sweet.

Tilt Wheel???

About the only time mine is changed is if I have to take the dash apart for some reason. Other than that, nothing really changes about mine - nor the seats. I am the only one who drives it. My wife is too scared something will happen to it when if she drove it, so she just rides along... hehehe

Tilt Wheel???

Tilt is a must if you share the vehicle with someone taller or shorter! I change the position of the wheel EVERY time I drive my truck after my wife has driven it.

Tilt Wheel???

Chris there is a prety good chance your old Ford doesn't have it but just in case there is a newer column in it (hoping its from a Ford) hold the wheel with your right hand with slight down pressure and then try and push the signal lever forward if the lever doesn;t move, no tilt:-( if does, Happy Day. If the column is even newer or from a Gmjunkathing look for a lever that you've not seen before could be left or right side of column and try it.
I love my tilt and hate it when I don't have it. I (sometimes) let my wife drive and she likes the wheel higher than I do. When I'm cruisin on the highway I like the seat back and the wheel low
She finds it a pain but I love it.

Tilt Wheel???

i beleive some of the trucks had a signal lever that you push towards the front of the truck rather then pull towards you? personally i would love tilt steering cause im only 5'1" so it means being able to see over the steering wheel or not. hehe

Tilt Wheel???

I got tilt and it is a must for me. It sure makes it easier to get in/out of your truck. On my company car (98 bluebird bus) I have tilt and tellascoping wheel.

Tilt Wheel???

My truck doesn't have tilt (XL). I either have to adjust seat forward/back or duck to see part of gauge cluster. No big deal. I don't care if I have tilt or not. Wife's Aerostar has tilt and so I adjust it to see gauges. Sometimes fun to tilt all the way up and pretend you are driving a bus :7.

I don't know about trucks, but the Mercury I robbed my column from uses the turn signal lever as the latch release.
I identify most tilts by the bell behind the wheel. If its a tilt column, usually the part below the bell is rounded in top and bottom. Unless of course its an Honda, they tilt the whole column and hid the lever right up against the dash.
