Excursion is gone
C'mon bro, you don't really believe your negotiating skills are so good that you can get a dealership to take a $100 dollar loss like that that on paper, without the true bottom line showing a profit for the dealership somewhere else in your deal, do you?

I'm sure the dealership sold at least that many vehicles just last week alone.
What matters is that you're happy. And if you truly think they're taking a $100 loss on the vehicle you traded them, because of your mad negotiating skills, all the better for you!

But momma ain't here...
7 new cars in 28 years huh? There's more room to negotiate with used car dealers than new car dealers, I assure you. Those new car guys are less likely by far to take a loss on anything. However used car dealers occationally are willing to take a loss on a vehicle especially if they are having trouble moving it. Also they buy their used cars for far below what they even list them for, so there's a lot more room to play around. If they're listing your car for sale for 18.9k, you probably got 9-10k for it tops. When I traded my 98 Expedition in for $2500, they took a loss I guarantee, so I'm sure they found a way to add it into my excursion purchase price, as my Expedition was completely rusted through and needed about $4000 in brake lines, trailing control arms, suspension, rusted fuel lines, master cylinder, brakes, tires, etc. 7 cars in 28 years, quite impressive... I've bought 7 used cars in about 3 years, and negotiated on every one of them, and there's a lot more negotiation points on a used car than there is on a new one. But you keep thinking you know it all, what ever helps you sleep at night.

The H1 would deff. have been a more noteworthy trade lol.
Oh and i've bought 7 cars in less than a year, and at one point owned 6 cars/SUV's, and two motorcycles simultaneously. I think I have some sort of addiction lol. I am doing good though down to 3 cars and the X now. I do have my eye on a VTX1800C though, I'll have one of those either this year or next.

To bad the asian countries don't offer better wages and benefits - maybe with improved health coverage and more retirement income security they'd be spending more themselves right now.
As for trading off an Excursion - well some new owner will soon be visiting this site.
Do the math on your figures...
$35/hour *40 hours/week * 52 weeks = $72,800/year not including all of the time and a half and double time in OT.
This is for UNSKILLED labor. Reality check time here. Why would anyone living on this salary want to further their education or become more than someone that bolts on a quota-ed number of bumpers a day? It is entitlement at its finest and is a huge part of what is wrong with this country.
Also remember there were a lot of people getting paid $35/hour (and even more) for sitting reading newspapers in the all so infamous "job bank" program that the unions strong-armed for.
Was there once a need for unions? You bet. But, that was back near the turn of the century and tragedies such as the "Triangle Shirtwaist Fire" were classic examples. Since then, there have been LAWS created that protect the worker and even provide for fair wages. What many people don't realize is that you don't need a union to protect your rights these days. You can do that yourself in a court of law if required to get to that point.
What unions ARE doing is driving our workforce out of the USA and into the hands of other countries like Mexico.... look at GM, Ford, Xerox, IBM, Fisher-Price, IBM... the list goes on and on for those just south of our border. Way to go!
Greed and entitlement have destroyed both our work ethic and our strength as a manufacturing and exporting superpower.
Now, dn't even get me started on the mega-banks that charge up to around 25% for credit cards and give 5% to those that have savings accounts whilst lining their pockets... (go back to local banks!!!)
/rant...
And as for selling it to an FTE member, WTF?
Who do you guys think you are? It's his truck, his life, and he did what he thought was best for him.
He did get more than just a ribbing about his supposed "negotiating skills" though, especially when he posted about buying new 7 cars since 1980.
wow.

Who do you guys think you are? It's his truck, his life, and he did what he thought was best for him.
Dude, two people mentioned selling to FTE members. Two. And all they did was suggest that he might have gotten his asking price from an FTE member, had he posted it for sale here. Nobody said he had to, or gave him crap for not doing so.
It would behoove you to get your facts straight before you attempt to take us to task for our posts in this thread.

You make it sound as if these so called "unskilled" laborers are inferior to people with higher educations.
You think all of them did not pursue a college education just because they could get a job with an automaker, or gasoline refinery, etc and "bolt on a quota-ed number of bumpers a day" as you put it and get paid well... not likely.
Are you suggesting socialism?
Anyways, back on topic. Lets not stray to far and ruin the thread.
