Ok so...I was wondering ever since I got this truck how badly it was put together, so I have a few questions for people here.
First off the truck in question is a 1990 F250HD Originally came with a 351 w/a four speed automatic. The truck now has a 460 w/C6 trans out of a 1978 lin Con...
My main question is this. How Do I know if the truck has the correct engine perches for the 460 and there NOT the 351's? I know the engine mounts are for a 460, But is there anyway to tell the difference between the 351 and 460 frame side ones? Any help would be appreciated.
Cuz the 460 will not go into the 351s mounts. The 351 mounts to brackets attached to the rear of the engine cradle. the 460 mounts to the top of the cradle iirc
The 5.0/5.8 bracket and the 7.5 are similar in design, but different in dimensions. They both mount on the rear side of the crossmember and use the same bolt holes for attachment.
The 5.0/5.8 has a single slot on the mount face, set low on the bracket. The 7.5 has 2 slots, one above the other and set high on the mount face.
So technically they could have drilled another bolt hole in the 5.8 mounts and dropped the engine in and said screw it right?
I'll have to see what they did next time I go down to my friends house( trucks parked 30 miles away). I hope they didnt just "Make" the 5.8L mounts work...I've been looking for the correct 460 perches and if needed they arn't cheap.
