i have 01 F350 7.3psd has 120,ooo miles. is there anything special i should do to keep it running for another 120,ooo? Other than the normal lube oil and filters. i see you guys talking about turbo rebuilds and o rings here and there.
Your truck will always get a hickup here and there.. Maintenance is Key. Motoroil/trany/powersteering/rear end.. oil..oil..oil.. Many more.. Maintenance is key. If it breaks, tell us about it and these folks will tell you how to fix it right.Maintenance is key.. If you on a budget, just stick to the cheap mods. Like myself. Treat is right and she will last. Seen a 500k birthday thread today.. Maintenance is key.. Don't worry about it till she breaks as long as your doing the maintenance, enjoy it. Like me, if you stick around here you will always learn something every time you log on.. And check out the search button. I used that alot and usually find my answers.
Change your coolant, serpentine belt, tranny & diff fluids, flush the ATF in the power steering reservoir, flush the brake fluid, change the shocks if any of that hasn't been done recently. Then spend some time reading and asking questions here at FTE so if something does go wrong, you know how to fix it yourself.
I've never changed o-rings or rebuilt the turbo on my truck at 283k miles, but mine gets lots of exercise.
i do all the general stuff. did not know if there was any thing special. does not sound like it. and your right this site and the people on here are great. i am learning all kinds of stuff. i am hooked on this site. i was reading on here about repacking the front needle bearings the other day. have you ever done that? i know ford had some problems with the front bearings, i have never had a problem with. but dont want to either. i have been through three sets of ball joints in three years.
Ive serviced the needle bearings, but not replaced. When you replace the ball joints are you replacing them with ball joints that have grease fittings on them. IMO they last a heck of a lot longer.
Pull the return line off the hydrobooster (runs to top of powersteering pump) and replace with a length of clear hose. Run other end of hose to catch container. Remove lid from reservoir and with engine running, have some one slowly turn the steering wheel and work the brakes. Add fluid as it drops using a long neck funnel. Keep this up until fluid coming out of tube is pretty red color. Replace return hose and lid. I was thinking it took over 3 qts, but have since been told it was less than three. I used Syn ATF mobil 1 and it seems to be working great.
