Sick Truck need help

It's hard to explaine but you know when something isn't right. Something feels or sounds different with your truck. Well mine isn't the same and I can't seem to put my finger on it, so I turn to you all for help.

The truck has been service including fuel filter, CPS (grey), new glow pluggs. I run Lucas or Diesel Clean in the fuel. Running and Edge J/A.

Had the problem before all the above.
  • The diesel engine noise sounds louder that ever
  • rough idle. sounds like not hitting on all cylinders
  • Loss of power. boost never gets above 19 and i've seen 24 in past.
  • has high idle at start then backs down
  • seems like in 1st it's leting the RPMs get higher (3K) before shift and some times the shift is harder that others.
Took the truck to Auto Zone and their scanner came up with no codes but found out the scanners they use may not work for my truck. Heading out of town (Kansas to Texas Lake Fork) this week but plan on taking truck into deal for diagnostic test when I return.

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Look at the EBPV tube, and look for IC boot leaks..
Also look for up pipe leaks..

Problems were there before the CPS

Checking the EBPV tube? Where's it located and what should I be checking it for?

Thanks

I only asked about the CPS because the "new" ones have done some strange things.
Here is a link that will tell you all you need to know about the EBPV

I don't think it would be the up pipes. That sounds like an exhaust leak, but doesn't affect early acceleration like that. It sounds more like a fuel thing, like there's air in the system, or gelling fuel.

Good points Dan.

How cold is it where you are? How is the oil? When I ran dino my truck was a bear on the cold mornings. With they Syn in it, there is a night and day difference on cold starts.

All right.. lets ask then..
How long have you had this problem, how long ago did you do your service?

That why I love this site..

I'll pull and clean the tube tonight.

About a month ago i though i ran it out of fuel. Fuel light came on and the next day I could not start the truck. This is when I changed the CPS, added gas, cranked and cranked and cranked untill it finaly started. Been driving it for a month now.

OK, so after this event, is this when your problems started?

Trucked started running this way about 2 months ago. I knew it was time to service so I decided to service oil (not syn), oil filter, fuel filter and replace glow pluggs at this time. Then a few days later is when I thought I might have ran it out of gas because I started it up and took off and it was running so bad it finally bogged down and died then wouldn't restart. I opened the fuel bowl and there was still gas in it so I don't know if I ran it out of gas or not. This is when I decided to replace the CPS. Eventually got the truck started and have been driving it for about a month now but it just doesn't seem right.

Temps here are 30's over night but I also plug it in at night and it runs like crap even after it warms up.

Is it possible my fuel pump or HPOP could be getting weak?

Wish I could give more info but just don't know what else to look for

You could have got a bunch of junk in the fuel lines and/or fuel filter. You may want to put a compressor on the fuel lines behind the fuel filter on the frame rail and blow the lines out.
