And I would want my leg to heal properly too. But there are ways to get to work with a cast on your leg. Get a wheelchair, hail a cab to and from work, and bill it all to worker's comp.
i wouldnt ever say that to a teachers face. standing up for 6 hours and walking around the classroom is not easy by any means. my mom and sister are both teachers and they go home tired almost every day. and often it gets hard to sit at a desk when you cant bend your leg.

also how does someone in a wheel chair wright on a white bored for students to see it?

In north carolina if you have a state funded job you also have a detailed job description. If for any reason you can not preform the job description 100% THEY WILL NOT LET YOU WORK.PERIOD. As others who live here can agree our school system is very polictical and always demanding more and more tax money as they are right now. I think there is a deliberate effort to keep any bad press out of the news and this isnt right. How dare the principal say that the workers comp claim 'has to go through her" and be written up in a way she wants.Teacher unions here have very little power and the head man at the school system rules with an iron fist. It sucks. If a teacher gets assaulted here she cant even report it to the police without fear of being fired....Part of the teachers job requires walking with the kids to and from all parts of the school and also going out to the bus parking lot to supervise the students getting on and off of the buses. Doing this in a wheel chair or on crutches would be inpossible.

It is unfortunate but true that schools get their funding per student only if they, the student, are in school!! If a student is expelled ,for say two weeks, the school does not get the money for that student while they are absent from the school. Sad but true that justice has turned to some bean counter in a hidden office somewhere! They should have been expelled!!

As far as the teachers leg, I knew a guy that slipped on the ice and went under his truck sideways and broke his tibia in three palces. He tried to work with the cast on but it got worse and he had to go on bed rest. The next thing you know they amputated below the knee. Then he got a blood clot from the surgery and died as in DEAD!!

I'm not a doctor and I don't know if this teaher was 24 or 54 but I do know that every situation is different for these broken limbs.

I too believe that the student should be charged. Sounds like at least assault to me.

As far as the teacher returning to work...you can be sure that the insurance carrier will be pushing for her to return sooner rather than later. I sustained a work place injury about 7 years ago...slipped on some ice and ruptured my quad...4 hours later I was in surgery. The incident happened on a Thursday evening...I got out of the hospital on Saturday...on Monday the Workers Comp nurse was on the phone with me suggesting that I could be back to work in a few days!!! The doctor finally released me to return 9 weeks later.

Insurance companies don't make money by paying claims!!!

Getting your leg broken at school in an assault probably sends out a Federal flag which is why they wanted it buried. She should be advised to tell the whole truth.

As long as those kids are in the school, I do not think the teacher should come back.

Should have done what my middle school teacher did - stand back and watch! When they're done, take them to the office and light their buttocks up. Ah, the good ol' days...
We used to live in Charlotte and were scared to death about the school BS. Thankfully our kids weren't in school yet and we moved before it was an issue. Do they still do the bussing there? What a bunch of dip*****s; if their heads were any further up their ***** they would disappear! I do recall the exodus of good students across the border to Rock Hill, SC, that school system started getting so overloaded with desperate people lying about their residency that its administrators started checking people's license plates when they dropped kids off to see if they were NC or SC. Nice job, Char-Meck.

The teacher got treated like crap by school administrators. She shouldn't go back to work until she feels perfectly healthy. Screw 'em.

If she's my wife, one way or another, the thugs will pay and pay dearly.

I'm just saying that teaching isn't exactly a labour intensive job. I could see maybe if she is a P.E. teacher, but there's no mention of that.
The issue here is the assault and lack of disciplinary action taken by the principal/superintendent/school board. Whether she is out for 1 day or 1 year is irrevalent in my opinion. As long as we tolerate this behavior we will continue to have problems.

By the way, I just saw an online news item today about an incident this morning in one of the better high schools here regarding this type of behavior.
