Where is the PCMs located on our 1996s. The dealer told me just above the e-brake pedal on the firewall. Well its not there, but there are two very large connectors of wires that join together and disappear into the black inner darkness of a black hole called the inside of the dashboard. Do i have to pull the dash to get to it? I really don't want to cause I'll get sucked in, if ya know what i mean. Also has anyone had problems with Napa's pcm that they have bought. All i have as a choice with Napa is refurbished ones. Brand new from dealer is $445 versus $189 from Napa. I'm getting one to stick a $360 perf. chip in, so I want it to be new (as possible anyways). $445 would be too much for that, but $189 isn't so bad. I found out that the metal box under the hood is the IDM, just outa curiosity I asked the dear how much? Bam!!! $800 brand new, RIDICULOUS!!!! Whine...Complain.. Things shouldn't cost that much!!! So anyway I'm just wantin to know where the PCM is really located, I'm sure someone has messed with theirs before. So gimme gimme gimme answers!!! LOL!!!!
It is behind the ebrake pedal. you need to remove the plasid kick panel behind the pedal and you will see it behind a large slug of metal. inside the hood it is the large bundle of wires on the dvr side on the bottom of the fire wall not the top one as thats the IDM. You have to disconnect that bundle and then take the inner fender loose to be able to slide it out. That and you can often find them in scrap yards for $50 -$100.
Oversize is right. It installs from the engine comparment and here is a picture that will show you the location
IMO though, unless you have PCM issues now there is no reason to get a new PCM just to put a chip in. PCM's rarely go bad and if they do it cause they leave the key on when they install a chip.
Hey thank you for the info. I just want a new or refurbished one put in because the chip is worth about twice what the pcm is and when I install components on a computer I generally want everything around the same age. I'm keeping my old one, not just throwing it away.
