Headlight?

What is the best direct replacement for the bulb in the headlight at the best price? This is for a 2008 F250.

If you are wanting to stay with the OEM bulbs, then order on-line from either of these FTE sponsors:

I've heard great feedback on the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs. I believe that you need the model 9007.

OSRAM SYLVANIA - SilverStar

Here are the listings on Ebay:

sylvania silverstar 9007, eBay Motors, Electronics items on eBay.com

the 05-7 was 9008/H13. I wouldn't expect ford to drop back to the old 9007. Piaa's website calls for h13 for 05-09 F250-550. I love my piaas.

Piaa's are the best but cost the most. Silverstars are better than oem. Do not waste your money on noyka.

I just installed the SilverStars [Ultras are NOT available with H13 sockets] and they STINK! They're the same wattage as stock! They are a little blueish if you like that but they don't illuminate any better!
Check your wattage before you buy. You're not going to see a substantial difference at the same wattage.

I put the PIAA's in my truck and did notice a difference. The light is whiter and is brighter. I believe the wattage is 10W more on low beam and 10W on the high beam. They do seem brighter though and IMO are worth the $90 I spent for them. I am still interested in putting them up against some HID's though and might still go down that road because from what I have heard they are still the brightest.

On of the best bulbs you can buy is the XtraVision, though they are also the same wattage. They are brighter than the Silverstar, and might be the bulb Ford uses from the factory. The best thing you can do for maximum brightness is to install a headlight relay kit, which will also support a higher wattage bulb. The other thing you can do is to make sure the headlight is polished and perfectly clear.

Has anyone wired the headlights so that the low beams stay on while the high beams are on? I would guess that it requires a diode of some sort.
Has anyone done it?

It would require a diode and be pushing the limits on some plugs. At 55watts your near 5amps, double that to 10A and you will be pulling all 10A through the ground plug. Plus your going to producing more heat than intended from the filaments. My relay harness should handle 15A per headlight pin, but I am not so sure of the bulbs.

I wouldn't even attempt to do it on the stock wiring, you'd be pulling twice the amperage through the headlight switch and associated wiring. You can build a relay harness rather cheaply, and the 9008 use an easily available socket. Then bridge the relays so voltage from the high beam relay's coil can flow across a diode into the low beam relay's coil. Thinking off the top of my head, if you use a SPDT relay, use 30 to feed the sockets, then on the high beam relay, run the 87 to the high beam pins and jump it across to the 87a on the low beam relay.

You say to use the 9008 socket; can I also use a 9008 bulb? I haven't looked closely enough to see if another number bulb [i.e. 9008] will fit into the headlight itself. I was thinking it would be easiest to have a headlight off the truck, bring it to the store and see what if anything would fit that socket then rewire from there.
The wiring is easy [for me, I like doing that. I plan everything on paper first, apply it then correct the diagram as I need to pragmatically.]

I was hoping to get away with less money with more time but if I go through a set or two more of those Sylvania DimStars I'll be at that price anyway. Yours might be the next option depending on the bulb-swapping situation.
