Clutch question

Hi,

Quick question -
1986 f150
4.9
3spd with o/d

Is this normal - Truck parked on slight hill left in fisrt gear without e-brake engaged will start to slip and lurch down the hill a few inches at a time.
Will do the same thing if its left in reverse.

do I need a new clutch or is this worse?

It just means that your e-brake is not engaging and your truck is slowly rolling forward in gear which is normal.

You might try putting it in reverse until you get the e-brake adjusted or fixed. It might help with the rolling because of the ultra low gear.

Hey - thanks for responding!

I meant to say - If I DONT have the ebrake engaged the truck will slip and roll down hill - and thats if its in 1st gear or reversed. Is my clutch toast?

That happens cause the engine is slowly rotating....the worse compression you have the worse this happens. Use the e-brake.

Back in the day, you could be sitting in the car on a slope and the car would slip back slightly.

Like said, it's probably the compression of your engine. I've heard of people talking about their trucks actually rolling in first gear low (NP435/T-18). Now that's a loose engine, lol.
