How many of you who have tools that use jack screws
(a screw that does the work - such as the screw in a ccous (c-clamp of unusual size) that is used in a ball joint removal too, or the screw that you use to remove a power steering pump pulley)
grease them with high pressure grease before each application?
i was removing a pulley today and did this and it came to mind. Failure to grease? well there was an alaskan air MD80 that had its tailplane come off, went inverted and crashed into the pacific....
I usually do grease those, in fact I built a special puller to get the crank pulley off my Courier, and greased it thoroughly before use. At work I have access to a grease called Almagard, by Lubrication Engineers, and it is very sticky while being very slippery. This stuff works great under extreme pressure conditions.
