i found someguy that has a 78 f250 and is parting it out and he told me he will sell me everything i need to convert my power assist steering to a 78-79 unit. my questions r is $250 too much and what is everything i need so i dont get riped off
Basically, you need the steering shaft, draglink, power steering pump, lines, and gear box. I'm not sure what bracket you will need for the power steering. Do you have a 360 motor? You'll need to do some modification to the frame to mount the gear box.
I'd say $250 is OK, considering a rebuilt gear box is over $300 and a core replacement is about $150. Than figure everything else. I'd say get the stuff. You can replace the seals and what not in the gear box for pretty cheap. Look at the steering shaft carefully. Many times those U-joints in the shafts are wore out. If they are, you'll need a new shaft and those aren't cheap either. I've also got some pics in my gallery on this conversion. I went with a Borgeson steering shaft because the one I had my brother accidently sold it to someone when I had my parts at his shop.
