i just push the collar in with a couple of screwdrivers. and it should uncouple from the slave cylinder. kind of a poor design if you ask me.. i've done 2 in my ranger and countless others at the tranny shop i worked at.

I cleaned the collar off with carb cleaner and compressed air then soaked it good with WD40, still couldn't get it to move with screwdrivers. As you said it's a poor design. I've heard that sometimes on older trucks the collar just accumulates enough grit an dirt that it sticks.
At least it's all apart now, I'll rest up for a few days and put it together next week.
yes they can be a pain to work with. then again on the top side at the clutch master cylinder there is a roll pin that you can drive out with a small punch and a small hammer.
i've done that before. sometimes its easier that way. then you can drop the tranny with the line on the slave. and i think you can get that line from FORD still.. its supposed to be quick disconnect at the slave cyl. but due age and the envirenment,elements,etc.
my ranger has the same system...and it sucks.. but clutch it while your there..
