I guess I'd have to ask you your purpose for changing the intake before I could make a suggestion. What do you plan to do with your truck? I have an AIS system because I live in extremely dusty conditions and I pull heavy loads (it is real quiet) occasionally.
I, along with many others are running the Napa 6637, which i just recently switched to from the Airraid system. I must say, what a difference... I love the sound of it, the look of it under the hood, especially when i dress it with Pete's filter cover. Cheap too, a little under 40 bucks from fleetfilter.com. Just my input, others will chime in...
mainly a weekend driver,occasionally tow a trailer.Will i get better mileage,performance,etc?
The 6637 will serve you fine...I bet you'll like the sound too! I do not think you will see any measurable difference in MPG, maybe a little in the seat of the pants performance. Mostly you will have a superior filtration system (over the stock junk, IMO) on the truck which will protect your investment.
So you use your stock air filter box,the filter is the same size as the stock filter, what are the advantages over the stock filter?how come you took your air raid system off?

I cut my stock airbox out. The 6637 is the size of the stock filter box.

Nope, you will yank out the stock filter box if you go the 6637 route (or the AIS route). The stock box is the junk I referred to earlier.

No i had to cut my filter box out to get that monster to fit!! The air flow is much better since i put my 6637 on. I took the airraid system off because my filter was dirty as could be and i sent it out to Pete so he could make covers for it, and instead of him sending me the filter back, i said he could keep it and i'll just get the 6637 being i hear so many good things about it. In return, he is sending me out a filter cover!!

I don't believe you have to spray it but i am not 100% sure. Also i heard they are good for 10,000 miles but you can get more out of them with Pete's cover. Someone please correct me if i'm wrong!!!
do you spray anything on the filter like you would a k&n,air raid? or leave it bare?how often do you change the filter?
Nope, spray nothing on the filter...Order up a cover from Pete and I bet you can easily go a year between filter changes (someone running the 6637 will give you real world advice on this). I can go over way over a year on the AIS filter and as I said, I live in about as dusty an environment as a person can live.
