Yesterday when i fired up the heater in my truck i noticed that the "#1" speed for the fan dosent work, 2,3,4 work fine but when the switch is at number 1 the fan stops. Has anyone else ran into this problem? Is there a way to check out the switch with an ohms test? or could the fan be the problem? By the way i just have the standard HVAC system, not automatic climate controll.
So do you think its just the switch? Maybe you could just buy another switch and quickly replace it. I have removed that panel and those switches are pretty straight forward on how to replace. That might be the easiest way out.
Seems like it's usually that resistor pack down near the passenger kick panel that is crapped out when one of the fan speeds doesn't work. You would need the wiring diagram to see where/what to check.
It's been awhile since anyone posted about that, but there are some old posts back there somewhere.
Got it working! I took the trim off the dash to get at the swicth, however i busted the switch while i was trying to get the connector off to see if i could ohms test it. Guess what... the switch that i broke was fine. It turned out to be the resistor that was bad. New switch, new resistor and everything works fine.
the resistor pack is located behind the glove box. Just push in on the right side of the glove box and flip it down. The resistor pack is directly in front with 2 screws holding it in place. I had to replace mine this past fall, 10 minute fix.
