Deadbeats on ebay

I'm trying to sell my boat so I can upgrade.

I've "sold" it 3 times now.

the 1st guy lived in Ca
the 2nd guy bid 6500 on it, won it, then proclaimed he'd give me 5000 for it

the 3rd is the best yet

"just had big lay off at work.i will know friday if im one of the ones that stay working.if u can wait for a few days sorry "

NEWS FLASH... If your job is unstable you may not want to be bidding on boats....

Ebay isn't what it used to be..

I just posted some stuff for sale and the amout of people looking at the stuff is way down..

Probably all the good buyers are on Craigslist and the slugs stay on ebay to pray on people..

To me, ebay sucks to sell stuff on. Ive sold many things on craigslist and will never sell anything else on ebay. I tried to sell a boat that my dad owned on ebay and got the same crap you are going through. The guy that "won" the auction called me and wanted me to deliver the boat to michigan. I told him that wouldn't be a problem if he paid me 1.50 a mile. Like i stated in the ad. He refused to pay the delivery up front and then said that he was going to refuse to pay at all unless he saw the boat first and if it got his approval, then he would pay me for the delivery and for the boat. I specifically stated in the ad that if the winner wanted it delivered THEY HAD TO PAY ME FIRST WITH A BANK CHECK!!! I politely told him to jump off a cliff. The nice things about craigs list is that its free, you are dealing with local people mostly and that its harder for them to play games with you...especially when it comes to payment.

Ebay definatly isnt what it used to be. Now everything has to be paid by paypal (except vehicles I think) which is nice on one side (when they pay, its almost 100% quaranteed) but then ebay also gets more money since they own paypal and take a little cut as well. With new feedback rules, seller cannot leave any kind of negative feedback, but buyers can. WTF???? I have been posting to craigslist as well. You can somehow make it go further than your local area. (Havent figured that out yet) But the nice thing is its free, you can talk to someone before making the sale. I sold a bedroom set thru craigslist. Had a couple of tire kickers, but then finally had a couple with a young kid come look at it and take it for what I was asking. You can also post pics on craigslist as well for free.

eBay is a pain in the butt. I use craigslist for the most part now.

But, going through the craigslist factsheet, I found this:

Q: Is there a connection between craigslist and eBay?
A: eBay acquired 25% of the equity in craigslist from a former shareholder in august of 2004.
I found it at the bottom of this page.

Kind of a catch 22.
Local can be nice. But it limits You to local buyers.
Ebay is world wide, but that just brings more deadbeats into the picture.

Craigs list has it's share of wierdos too I had a guy from some third world country in africa on a classic Honda I had for sale he wanted me to figure out shipping on it. Luckily I waited a few days and sold it state side. It did end up going to Arlington Tx. from here in Wa. But the guy paid check and was cool about waiting for it to clear and he then sent a guy up with a truck to get it. I have done alot of business on CL and have half of my shop thanks to them. Bought a miter saw on there friday for $20 and used it all weekend building a deck, it paid for it's use in the first Hour. Works like new Thank you CL. Tried E-bay once and was outbid at the last second, personally I think it sucks lots of better deals on CL but I've noticed some of the prices are getting rediculous people are getting desperate and think their stuff is worth more than it really is. But the deals are still out there.

I do not sell anything like a car, truck, boat, or anything they should look at first before buying..

I use Ebay for just collectible items.. This way the people who know the value of it will bid it up.. I also only sell things that will bring in more than $20.00.. Anything below that is a waste of time unless you have a 1000 of them..

Anything large or more of a yard sale item then it goes on Craigslist..

I have all but given up on ebay.
I may buy the odd item there still, but I only sell on CL now.
I find it better to use to sell.

ps. what sort of boat are you selling?

Put it on Ebay, it went to $110 in about an hr.

The thing I don't really like about ebay now is there are so many sellers that run their businesses there. It makes it harder to find Joe Blow who is selling his stuff.

Tell me about it, tired of all the BS drop dead people on ebay. I was tryin to sell my mustang cobra on their last summer, and had nothing but dealers calling me. Which their end result was to rip me off. Well, if they want the car that bad they can pay me what I WANT FOR IT.

I'm not sure about either of them. Selling I have had better luck on Ebay. I have been looking for another vehicle & the prices on both are crazy high IMO. way more than I'm paying, A lot of junk.

I have bought a bunch of stuff on ebay. Personally, I don't care who I buy from (individual or business), as long as they are legit and I don't get ripped off. I've gotten some great deals on out of print books and some old records that I was looking for.

Maybe the difference for me is that I go on there looking for a particular item and have a price in mind when I start. So far I've been able to find everything I've wanted eventually and never had a problem.

Now, if you really want to meet some characters, place a "free" ad on CL.
