Havin a problem here
Hooked up Prodigy with harness, simple. One problem. No power to unit, blk wire has no current, red has when pedal is depressed (which is correct). Fuses are fine,I`m pretty sure I checked the correct ones. Ideas?
Sounds like you hooked power to the BOO switch and it doesn't have power untill you press on the brake pedal. Connect to a hot lead that's on with the ignition.
Well I believe the harness is a plug and play
I watched the demo via the net an followed to a T. Black is supposed to always be hot while the red one only gets current when you depress pedal which in turn would activate the trailer brakes. Seeing how the red one is working properly do you think I can get away with splicing a power lead to the harness? Electrcal is not my forte
Bud
reading back it (mine sounds a little unclear.)The black wire has no current on truckon both sides of harness.Shouldn`t there be constant current? Iquess if I connect a lead as you say, Ill do it on controller side of harness, right?
There should be power at the black wire at all times. I would double-check the fuse, make sure you're checking the right fuse, and don't just rely on visual inspection, check the fuse with a continuity tester.
I don't believe there is a relay. The wire should be hot at all times, at least on mine it is and I don't know why that would change over model years.
If I'm reading the owners manual for a 2001 right, it should be fuse #28 (a 30 amp maxi fuse) in the power distribution box under the hood.
If you do end up having to wire the power lead yourself direct from the battery, make sure to include a 30 amp auto-reset circuit breaker; 12ga wire would be good for this.

David your`e absolutly right,I checked manual and found the same to be true,I was checking the wrong fuse.I know..but I have no fuse in #28 (empty) so when I`m out tomorrow I`ll pick one up.
Thanks to all for helping out
If you are going to be towing a RV make sure the relay and fuse are installed in the same power box so that the 12V power wire to the 7 pin connector is hot when the truck is running.
