Ford V10 interchange
I'm sorry if I am asking to much. I realize that I have just joined and this may be a turn off in some way. But I am no newbie to Fords in general. Have had Fords in the family all my life. Just not to sure about the newer ones so thats why I ask.
1999 is non-PI heads. 2000-2004 is PI head 2-valve, 2005-up is 3-valve.
In other words, NO, the '99 will not "directly" swap with the 2002. You will lose some power, the '99 had lower ratings than 2000-2004, and it probably has an EGR and maybe one or two other things that are different.
In other words, get a model-year 2000-2004 for a DIRECT swap.
Now, if you want to swap the heads from the 2002 to the 1999 engine, then, yes, it becomes a direct swap

Ok thanks for the info. The 99' engine does have an egr whereas the 02' does not. The reason I want to know about the interchange is because the heads on the 02' motor have been heli-coiled and the heli-coils have broken and the 2 intake valves on cyl. 4&5 are burnt and the block has 210k on it so I was hoping to use the 99' engine. So I guess i'm stuck with it. If anyone is in need of a 99' and older V10 just let me know.
Hey, I am in the process of diagnosing my non-starting '99 V10 F250. All the bad branches of the diagnosis tree lead to a re-build or engine swap. I'll know more in the next couple days. I may want to talk to you about that V10 you have. Can you provide some details? Where did it come from...any known issues....mileage, etc. Also...where are you located?
It would be a bolt in, but as Krewat said, some power loss due to non-PI heads and lower compression on '99.
I believe you could use your existing EGR block off plate to close the hole, or just swap the angled part of the intake. Would need to use '99 non-PI intake manifold to match heads and make a couple other little changes. Can use your '02 exhaust.
If you decide to go through with it, I can talk you through it. I went the other way. And may have any parts you would need.

You could get some PI heads on the 99 block and then reuse you 02 intake etc. mws250 I think you got yours off EBay from Clearwater heads right? They where $400 a piece. Not the cheapest way to do stuff but it would give you a nice rebuilt engine with all the power you had before.
The engine is out of a 1999 Ford F-250 that was wrecked on the left front. I bought it off a guy in Wheeling, WV who said it ran after the accident. The truck had 85k on it. The only damage to the engine is the front of the left valve cover is smashed/small hole on the left front but the timing gear and chain are ok, also the left exhaust manifold got cracked but that is all. I am located about 20 mins outside of Pittsburgh, PA. My e-mail address is 68powerwagon@comcast.net. I can send pictures if you let me know yours.

That worked out very well for me.

Do you think he's been holding it for the last 12 years?
05 V10 odd knock
Hey everyone. I'm new here and not a mechanic. My 05 f350 has a knock. Was first told it was cam phasers which this engine does not have. Was then told it's a rod knock. I am going on 10k miles now with this knock anyone know of any issues with this motor that makes a knock and is not a rod? I'm not against putting a new motor in but am just not sure. Runs great. Pulls all my manlift with all my ladders planks and tools on the rack with zero issues. Any help is appreciated
