My mistake...I thought he was just asking about a 5.4 versus a 4.6. I missed the reference to the "v4".

Question difference between the "V4" and 1998 5.4 Expy

I am uneducated as to the details of these engines. What does it mean to have a "5.4 V4"? I have a 2000 Expy with a 5.4. Is this the V4 engine or the same as the 98 5.4? Thanks for explaining. fitzy67

V4 would mean 4 valves per cylinder, 3V would mean 3 valves per cylinder and 2V means 2 valve per cylinder and your Expy would be 2V.

The 4V engine has 2 cams or (Dual Over Head Cams) per head while the 2V engine has a Single Over Head Cam per head. The Navigator was a 5.4L but came with the Entec or Intec badge on the engine and had the 4V's per cyl. While the Exped came with the 5.4 Triton and the 2V's.

And the Blackwood, and the rare 2000 Cobra R Mustang.
A variant of it was in the GT,and also the GT500 Mustang.
