Whoa, thats weird, my 250 frame horns aren't like that at all, they look like 150 frame horns, I know my truck is an F-250 because of the vin starting with F25, and I even checked the vin on here with the vin decoder. But, the frame on mine has the shape of the bumper made into it. Maybe the frame was swapped? I don't know, my truck is old, way older than me, so anything is possible. I can't tell you how many of these trucks I have had in my life or been around, well over a dozen atleast, and my grandpa had a 78, and I was born in 83, so I have been with these trucks for almost 26 years. And I built my 76 by myself. I didn't do anything much to the body, but everything else I did. Thanks for the pics Jermafenser, that does clear up somethings, unlike a list of part numbers from a book I don't own, especially when the parts are obsolete. I wasn't trying to be ugly or rude about the topic, and if I offended anyone I apologize for that, I want to continue being a member on here for as long as possible.

On the picture with 4wd it shows bumper bracket but says 350 only. Chad where did those diagrams come from? Interesting it shows a bracket for an F100. I'll have to look at my truck tomorrow.

I wonder if this is something that Ford could have been inconsistent about or if it was required by certain states as an easily replaceable part for crashes- kind of like bumpers with shock absorbers. The reason I say this is that my 78 F250 2wd, a 78 F250 2wd that I pulled a bumper off of, and a 76 F250 supercab camper special that I parted out all had the integrated horns in the frame and not a separate bracket. Not trying to stir the fire, just wondering about the differences.

It might be a light-duty F250. The frame horns are not precisely illustrated in the parts catalog. It is just there for illustration purposes.

Besides, my parts catalog is a mixed bag. May be, may not be accurate.

From the 1973-79 Ford parts catalog. The source itself.

Let me know. I'll also look under my 78 F150.

Hey, something else I just noticed, on my truck, the top of the frame is all wavey like(look back at the pic I took up top) and on that four wheel drive with the brackets, the top is all flat looking. Is this a difference between 4x2s and 4x4s? Also, I'm glad yall are on my side when I said to ND about mine not having the brackets, all he did was critize me for not being around the time these trucks were built and bark at me, when I was never rude to him. Anyway, I think they have the distinct purpose(at least on 4x4s) of keeping the bumper from hitting the spring mounts.

Wow there is some serious drama starting up here, . The point here is to help one another out and learn some things. So everyone, let it go. So anyway, I got a thought. ND's books say that ALL of them had the brackets right? Can't argue that fact. It's in print. But some of you say your trucks don't. And me personally, when parting out a '78 F-350 4x4 once, don't remember seeing them either. So anyway, heres what I was thinking. What if they were all supposed to have the brackets, but one or more factorys didn't acctually do it? Or what about canadian ones vs American? Maybey you all can decode where your's was built, and that may help figure it out. If so, it wouldn't be the first time a factory cut some corners to save a buck on production.

The diagrams came from the 1973/79 Ford Light Truck Parts Catalog.

Chad is using the first edition of this catalog which has errors, omissions. This is the CD version available from hipoparts.com.

I have 5 editions, 2 on Ford microfiche slides, 3 are the Ford bound paper versions. One of the microfiche versions matches Chad's CD, the other is the last edition dated 10/88.

The 10/88 version is the one I primarily use here on FTE, as it's the most accurate.

1978 F350 2WD, 1979 F350 2WD/4WD take one each of the following:

D8TZ17752A .. right bumper bracket & D8TZ17753A .. left bumper bracket.

Parts catalogs have general illustrations for part number ID only. Some parts illustrated are only used on certain models.

There are no F100/150 front bumper brackets, even though the first illustration says: F100/250 2WD.

bmarkline: There is no such thing as a 1978 F350 4WD. 1979 was the first year Ford offered an F350 with 4WD.

Where does this say your truck only?

As far as me being a jerk...look at it from my perspective.

I type what the Ford parts catalogs state, you dispute that, but have no proof to back it up...only saying you've never seen it in any "parts manual."

Since you do not have the Ford truck parts catalog...exactly what parts manual are you refering to?

I did this SCHEISS every GD day for over 35 years, and got well paid for it.

I've been doing the same thing here on FTE for two years plus, not getting paid for it.

I'm the only FTE member out of 500,000 + who has all the parts catalogs. The only member out of 500,000 + who searches for obsolete parts.

The only member out of 500,000 + with any Ford parts experience.

If I came across as a jerk...I apologize.

It's a frustrating job, because every so often when I type info...someone chimes in and says.."my truck doesn't have that."

As I've stated in the past, these trucks are 30 + years old and have had multiple owners. So..there's no way to know what might have been changed over that period of time.
