went for drive today, 100 miles, about 60 miles out the engine lost power but still ran sounded like it was only fireing on one piston. drove home in 1 gear 10 mph. ghanged the fuel filter and cleaned the screen on fpr valve, started it, same thing, it idles ok but sounds sick, couple times when comming home it cleared up as long as i did not talke it over 1500 rpm now check engine light is on and it still runs bad, I changed the ipr back 2000 miles ago. what is going on?? any ideas, help.
that's a bad under valve cover harness for sure. had the exact same problem a month ago. if you are going to do it yourself pm me and i'll give you some tips if you want. i just did mine. driver side was easy. pass side a pain in the ***.
went to napa bought 2 uvcg instaled them, started truck, guess what, it still same thing. put guage on sharader valve about 90 lbs, evev if not running good. it idles good, i run to 2000 rpn leave it their for like 30 seconds and back to running like crap, i let it idle crappy for about 1 minute and it clears up. this is starting to make me hate this truck. put a obd2 and it says code 141 whatever that is, i have all the codes but 141 not their?

There are four harnesses you only changed two? also how do the plugs look on the main harness ( the ones that plug into the valve cover gaskets) are any burnt? peel back the cover on the wires behind the plug and check for burnt wires.
no burnt wires, even the plug that plugs in the valve cover gasket is not burnt. and inside the female plug the one on the gasket the prongs look good. any ways i replaced both gasket one on driver side and one on pasenget side with the wires that come with it to the glow plugs and the injectors. any ways now i have 2 used uvcg just in case i ever need an emergency. they look good and nothing smells burnt. oh well i really love that truck. had it for 8 years hardley any problems, wish i could fit it it in show room condition, runs good before yesturday, usally i can fix almost anything that goes wrong except this. kind of saddining. depressing etc etc hope it not dead. spending lots money trying to fix it, maybe it some kind of little thing that cost 10 cents after spending so much money on this truck wife will shoot me.

Don't give up on it. There are a lot of great minds here that can help.
You need to get a scanner on it that is capable of reading a diesel.
Code P0141 is an Oxygen sensor code, we don't have 'em.
Without the scan everything is an expensive guess...as you already discovered.
Be sure you oil level and quality is good. If you are due for an oil change, now is a good time to do it. Same with the fuel & filter.
I have a scanner and it has the 96 psd 7.3 turbo diesel di in the program that what i used. the scanner is actron cp9145 super auto scanner that what i used it said code 141if code 141 is oxygen sensor and we don't have them. i am stumped.
yes it is shimed but bb in tonight hoping that would cure the problem it did not. when idling it around 70lbs at 2000 rpm it around 90, hard to tell bouncing guage. ok when 2000 rpm sharader valve guage is 90 lbs at 2000 rpm when it acts up pressure drops around 60lbs still holding 2000 rpm in neutral. but rpm drop a little18000 then i drop to idling and it clears up and idles good. nice like nothing wrong. by the way when i start engine it starts instantly. as long as i do not shut it off when it running bad. if running bad and i stop it then start it it starts hard and runs bad till it clears up. if i stop engine when it running good it starts good and idles good. for hours if i let it, never goes bad. only goes bad when i turn up rpm then after like 30 seconds it runs bad. if idling good and i put in gear step on gas pedal hard plenty power runs good for about 200 feet then goes bad and feale like no fuell . if running bad in neutral i step on gas pedal it will run bad but rpm can go to 2500 rpm. but enging running rough. in gear forget it. low gear luckey to go 2 miles an hour. excuse the spelling fingers froze.
