Maybe something is loose. Check the tin nut on the IPR, it can get loose. It can be stripped very easy, just snug it up.
Here is a great picture of the IPR and more...(Green Beans go to TJBEGGS)

The wire harness that goes over the driverside valve cover can rub through and cause an intermittent. It is loosely taped in red. Try shaking the harness when it's acting up.
Im surprised no one responded with the obvious .......... its your IDM Injector drive module ..... usually when it goes bad it fires only on 4 cylinders or half a bank ...... if only one injector was firing..... trust me your truck would never start much less run.......... Good luck.

what is an idm injector drive and where is it?? sounds expensive
if it that would it run good at idle, and at 2000 rpm even under power for 200 feet or in netrual for 30 seconds??

If you want to throw more expensive parts at it that's your call. You really need to get the codes pulled.
The IDM, Injector Driver Module, is located on the driver side fender.
IDMs usually stay dead, not intermittent. You can check it for water intrusion, remove it from the fender and shake it, listen for liquid shloshing around in there. Check the wire connector too.
ok thanks I will pull it and see if it wet. if they go dead and stay dead then that must not be my problem. I had a frend put his machine on it to pull codes, and his said same as mine, unable to comunicate with pcm check conections. he also has a psd 96 but he said he stumped on my truck. his machine works good on his truck,

I know this is gonna sound weird but does your cigarette lighter work in your truck if not it may be a blown fuse and I think if it is blown the obd2 port will not work same fuse I had this problem one time with a programmer it could not communicate with the pcm because the fuse was blown.
Wow Thanks, I will check that when it stops snowing, we in a blizzard. expecting 24 to 28 inches. Thanks again. Hay here a stupid question, might a blown fuse cause my problem. if fuse is somewhere in truck? which one ??? have to check all my fuses if i can find them all. where the lighter fuse? under dash or engine compartment? If it ever stops snowing here it will be nice, my 66 year old body does not like winter.
The fuse is under the dash on the back of the cover for the fuses it will tell you what one is for the lighter and such that is not what is making your truck do what it is doing but will not allow the scanner to communicate with the pcm if it is blown
You need to pull the codes what kinda scanner does your friend have?
Take the chip out that could be the problem as well
ok i will take the chip out, his scanner brand ??? mine is a actron super scanner. obd 2
thanks for all the help. all you guys, greately appreciated. I will let you know what happens when i get a chance to work on it again.

Reason: spelling
found problem i think very weard, fuel line was pinched from selector valve to fuell pump (lift pump) It would allow engine to idle but at 2000 rpm after few minutes it did not have enough fuell to run good. well any ways I have lots new parts that would probably go bad in near future. Guess that one more thing to look for when engine runs bad. MY PSD now back to running very good, Thanks guys for the help.
