I've finally getting to the point (56,000 miles) that I need to replace the stock tires on my E-350 extended passenger van. It only has four captains chairs in it and very rarely do I ever put another bench in for extra passengers although once in a while I will stick my 300lb race bike and some gear in the back. I really wanted to go with some larger on/off road tires like the BFG All terrains. I have the factory alloy 16" (centerline style) rims and was hoping to go with 275/75-16 or maybe even bigger although I hate to have to put wider rims on. Has anyone experimented or have pics of slightly larger tires on a van? Also, is there anyway to reprogram the speedo to match the new circumference?
Also, does anyone make a simple front nudge or light bar? Most I've seen are HUGE!
One last thing, I want to make it a bit louder. Again no one lists a performance muffler, just wondering what anyone else has done?
Thanks in advance
On my 2 wheel drive 98 E350 I had 265/75 16 and they rubbed on the right side. I went back to the stock size the next time. Michelin tires. And I used the CorrectTrak wheel spacers to bring the rear out a little.
With my 4x4 van I have 285/70 17 but there's a lot more room.
Programmers can correct your speedo.
Light bar? Check out some handrails, really. Like a grab bar only better.
Unless you've done something to increase the wheel clearance (body lift or suspension mods) you need to be very careful about tire size. It did not take much increase in tire size about an inch and a half wider and an inch and a half taller to cause my van a lot of problems.
You also have to worry about side to side sway with these vans. I run 245/75/16 E Toyo HTs and love them. Especially the white letters. They would look sweet with whatever wheels you'd want to mount them on.
