1 mile, 5 minutes with a stop at the deli for a coffee and a paper. then i get into the truck and drive between 200 and 500 miles at work, and another 1 mile drive back home at the end of the day.

24 miles. 43 minutes going to work for 0600, about 50 coming home leaving at 1420. If my hours were still 0700-1530 it would be an additional 30 minutes each way.

One day in December 2007 it snowed just enough to cause gridlock - took me 8 hours to get home. It could have been worse - many folks ran out of gas and didn't get home at all that night.

Six Feet....

From the bunk to the Driver's seat.

(it's a couple hundred yards to the bathroom between, though. )

I'm not sure there's enough money on this planet (printed, fiat, gold-backed, or otherwise) to pay me to do a 2-hour-each-way commute.

6.6 miles from the apartment to Battalion area. 15-20 minutes normally Damn near 40 if the gate is backed up which used to be rare but is now a normal thing....Damn renta-cops......Hold up traffic and flirt with my wife.....
Which they're pointless because I cant count the times I've rolled up to the gate in a vehicle with no post sticker,no dogtags and a hat on with sunglasses. All I had to do was tell them I'm looking for a certain building, got right in like nothing. But some feel badass when they get to stand there and look at you holding a shotgun like they're intimidating and really not. Hard to not laugh when a skinny looking guy is holding a huge double barrel shotgun trying to have a hard look.

About 6 miles.
Sometimes I take the long way just so the PSD can get fully warmed up.

Know a local guy that commutes form here to NYC daily @ about 3 hours each way.
Moved to the country, but can't quit the NYC DOT job he has - too much vested in retirement to not go for full retirement. Only has a few more years to go. He told me he leaves his house at 3 am and is drinking his first cup of coffee at 6 in his shop up there.

Anyone ever hit I 95 - I 695 in rush hour? Horrendous!
Oh, yes. I-95 and/or I-695. It is horrendous. My M-I-L (may she RIP) lived in B-more and I've made the commute to Washington, DC, from her house, many times. 50 miles, one way.

My 'normal' commute is 26 miles, and takes between one hour, to an hour and forty-five minutes.
Friday afternoon commutes, especially in Spring/Summer, the drive is 1 to 2 hours, coming home!

The road infrastructure is only 20-25 years behind the times, from Southern Maryland to Washington, DC.
All of the money collected (taxes) are spent in/around Baltimore and to/from Annapolis (and lining certain peoples' pockets, IMNSHO.)
One route for me can take 30-45 minutes, just to travel 4 miles, between the Charles County 'line' and a little town called Brandywine, because of the antiquated traffic lights and intersections at Rte. 5 (Branch Ave.) and Rte 373 and Old Brandywine Rd (Old Rte 5.)
What a cluster(ahem)! Two traffic lights within (literally) 100 feet of one another! On a MAIN highway!

However, my absolute worst commute, was on January 13, 1982.
I worked in NW Washington, DC, and lived just outside of Andrews Air Force Base, in Suitland, MD. . . . about a 6 mile commute.
It was snowing like crazy.
We were 'released' from work at 3:30 p.m., and we are normally 'off' at 4:00 p.m.
This date is the day that the Air Florida 737 hit the 14th Street Bridge and fell into the Potomac River.
Also, a MetroRail (subway) train de-railed in one of the tunnels.

What was normally a 25-45 minute commute, turned into a 5-1/2 hour commute!

And of course there is always the Bay Bridge westbound on a summer Sunday afternoon.

Or the time when the fuel truck went over the rail on an overpass on I95 south of Bal'mer. I got onto 95 southbound
and as I crossed the overpass and looked north it was really weird to see 4 lanes of no traffic. (Think Armageddon).
