Missing Casting Numbers on 302

I have a 302 but the casting numbers are none existent on the block. there is no ridge for the casting date or anything. and there are no marks showing they have been ground. it looks like it was cast like this. does anyone have any ideas what this engine woud have been for or why its absent of numbers.

Where on the block are you looking? The numbers should be on the lower rear area, either on the side of the block or a flat area near the oilpan surface.. one side or the other depending how old it is. If the block is at all dirty the numbers would be covered.

You may have to remove the starter motor to see the numbers.
