I am now chasing a new problem. Symptons are as follows:
Truck idles fine.
When driving, at certain running speeds say around 1700 rpm, the truck surges. It is like the injectors is turning on and off. Then it will stumble. It will also do that when the cruise is on while traveling a flat road. It will speed up (surge) and then slow down (stumble).
I am thinking of one of two things. Either the fuel pump or that damn CPS.
I just changed all filters and oil as it was due. Actually changing the oil seems to have made it worst. But it also may be my imagination.
Any ideas?
I am going on a trip next Wednesday and I need to get this fixed as soon as possible. I am going to have it scanned for codes and will post what the codes say in a few hours.
Injection pressure regulator controls the oil pressure in the heads which fires the injectors. If the IPR is opening and closing a little while driving it can make the engine surge or fall off since the injectors use this oil to fire.
in theory, yes. in actuality, no.
i have not done the 02 for the second time yet, because it is still a little cold, and i can't get it into the garage.
but as soon as it warms up i am going to do it again.
a ford tech told me every third oil change is good, but it was real crappy when i did it when i first got the truck, so i want to do it again before i go to the every 3 oil change period.
Paul, have you ever changed the oil in your high pressure oil pump??
over time, it gets as thick as molasses in there.

JMO, but I'll wager that's not your problem, and changing it won't solve your problem. You really need to get it checked for codes before any good advice can be given, but it sounds like an IPR problem to me.

I'll shut up now.
no need to shut up. the more minds thinking, the better chance of fixin it.
and i agree that an hpop oil change probably will not fix it, but it can't hurt to try, rite??
