Me Too! It is time for some PMS, instead of General Repairs. Now to save back up for my Grille Guard and the Harley Lights.

WOW, I made 4000 post.

Dammit it is back again, but not as bad. I did a second oil change. Damn idiots at the shop put Rotella in it. Nope, NADA, just cannot see putting that trash in my truck. Sorry to you Rotella lovers. I told them Motorcraft or Mobil Syn. That cost them about 8 gallons of oil and two filters to flush it, but it is nice and clean on the stick now. Have not see it look that way in a long time.

I am going to order the sensor from Jim on the head first and see if that is it. If not, then I will tear in to the HPOP. Damn, I don't want to go there. I am just getting able to move around and do not look forward to leaning across that grille. The problem is that no codes are there. That kind of stumble and jerk should set one.

Qwik, a question. I feel that this is a fuel problem. I am just wondering if I increase the fuel pressure if that would solve the problem. I read a while back about a bb and a washer installed somewhere. Any idea what this MOD is?

Maybe you have a clogged screen in the tank. The pickup screen. You can try to increase it with a mod. I was at the International dealer and told me to stretch out the spring in the FPR to increase fuel pressure. You really need to monitor fuel pressure best under load. You would either have to run a tube into the cab or get an electronic sensor.

If it's a fuel issue, then it's likely related to a restriction, so bumping up the pressure won't help with volume. A temporary fuel pressure gauge would tell you for sure what's going on. If you're wanting to bump up the fuel pressure, locate the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) that screws onto the side of the fuel bowl. Remove that and install a shim behind the spring. That's what bumps up the pressure. It's recommended to check your pressure's with a gauge since these trucks don't seem to like the pressure going above 70 psi.

With the time taken for the the problem to come back, I would sure be looking at the fuel system, again. Something is going on and like they said, and inexpensive fuel gauge tie wrapped to you wiper blade will tell the story.

What's wrong with Rotella?
.
Bumping up the fuel pressure will mean nothing if you do not have the volume to keep up with it.
That's why I keep harping on finding out what your fuel pressure is at WOT and climbing a hill.
It's very easy for a clogged fuel pump/filter to maintain fuel pressure at idle and the very low fuel demand.
Getting out on the road and really nailing it is a whole different situation.

Kwik, I had problems with Rotella a while back with a warranty claim, they would not back it up, and then after tearing down an engine I had rebuilt with 40K on it, and seeing all of the gunk, reminds me of Quaker State. Nope, NADA, not again.

I am going to get a fuel pressure gauge I can temporary install. Here is the best place to do a tap?

Fair enough and I fully understand. VW and Audi have the same policy with engine oil. If you don't use oil that adheres to the 505.01 spec and it fills up with sludge, they deny any wrongdoing..
.
IMO the best place to connect the fuel pressure gauge is at the rear of the fuel bowl, at one of those connections that are easily removed.
The other place is at the opposite end of the fuel rail on the cylinder head from where the steel line goes into the head. But the injectors are very "noisy" and it will make your pressure gauge bounce badly unless you are running it with a pressure snubber (oriface).
.
It needs to be able to maintain the same pressure across the board, no matter what the engine load is. It may drop a little when you throttle it up. My truck does that and I have decided that it is the injector noise making the pressure regulator bounce on it's seat.
For that reason, one of my projects some day is to rig up some sort of pressure snubber setup between the fuel bowl and the head.
Or figure out some sort of accumulator setup that can be attached between the fuel bowl and the heads that will be able to absorb that noise.

Can I take a pressure reading off of the water seperator orifice by clamp a hose to it?

I wouldn't. I'd be scared of ending up with a fuel leak if I tried to do that. Besides, you'd have to remove the drain hose and attach directly to the drain, since that connection is not made to hold pressure.

That is one area that has not had my attention. I have not installed a drain hose there yet. Just thinking, WRONG! LOL

You should have a drain hose unless you removed it. You could probably do it there, I think it is a plastic output tube. Best place to do it would be the two ports on the back of the fuel bowl which I posted earlier.
