I have two ropes I carry with me, a 1 3/4 weaved and a 2" twisted cotton rope. With bowline knots, neither fit into them well. So what I am thinking of, is using two clevises to connect the loops of the 1 3/4 rope to each loop and have it run through the 2". This will give me plenty of length, but I can't find clevises I'd trust big enough to use on these ropes. I also want to do something similar near the rear hitch. So where can I find big clevises with a minimum of 20,000 static or a very heavy shock rating? Or do you have a better idea?
I'll have to stop by the Farm store next time I go to town. I've looked at several places but never found anything over 8 or 9,000lbs load, which I assume is static. I am just not comfortable putting cotton ropes on a 8k lbs with clevis only rated for that much static weight. Plus I'd like one for my winch cable and get away from the hook.
TSC, Northern, or any farm store should be able to fix you up. I've got a few of those just because they're big enough to fit over the drawbar on my tractor. The one I linked to has a working load of 25k#'s, so that should get the job done for you.
search for "High-Strength Anchor Shackles—For Lifting" part number 3663T46 seems to be a decent size (aka, not too big!) and has a 25k pound work load limit. Little spendy though at almost $40/ea.
