dang it's been a long time since I was in Oregon City (about 20yrs actually) but I was out in the Vancouver area earlier this month helping my dad get his 32 chev sedan going.
Hey all. Been a month or so, I figured I'd better check in. Typical farmers - talk about the weather.
Went out to the Southwest in June. Death Valley was 106 but it felt better than when we got home - 95 in June?!?! Man that bit.
August is coming. Are we gonna get scorched this year?
Other than that I've been working on trimming out the exterior windows, siding the house, and I bought a 85 Cutlass as a donor for my 48 Olds project.
Works (UPS) has been busy the last couple weeks - infact really hasn't slowed down much for me. At least our big semi Pick Up Customers have been solid. I'm thinking the economy is starting to gel a little. Unemployment is always the last to get better they say.
Hey, could be worse - Iowa could be screwed like California.
Oh yeah - if you have a Obama bumper sticker, ya might wanna remove it. The cops are a little ticked at the Prez right now.
Speaking of projects, got a little bit done on the manual conversion on the Cummins... the trans is in place, master and slave in place and working, and tunnel cover reworked. Now to build the shifter handle, get my hands on a boot, build the trans mount bracket and driveshaft...
We race Ford powered IMCA Dirt Modifieds and until 2 years ago raced open Dirt Late Models with Yates power (still have the Yates engine and it is for sale at a very reasonable price). Been racing for the past 17 years.
Got the old truck bug and narrowed it down to a '57 or a unibody. Bought a '57 and started on it (Mustang II front end, 289/C4, Flaming River tilt steering, Lokar shifter, Mustang gas tank under the bed, etc.). Just after I bought the '57 I found a '61 unibody on EBAY and threw a bid on it. Won it for $202.50. My wife is very understanding, she must be, we've been married for 30+ years. Just bought a '62 292/3 speed to rebuild for the uni. My daily driver is a '99 F250 and hers is an '09 Taurus. We also have a '61 Falcon that is getting a full tube frame, 460/C6 and big Mickey Thompson tires on Centerlines. I do the majority of my own work and fabrication. Everything from building frames to body work to engines. I draw the line at automatic trannys and wiring (fortunately my racing partner is willing to take both of those on).
As you can tell, we're in to Fords a bit. Glad to help anyone out whenever I can, enjoy getting youngsters involved (my racecar driver is only 20 and struggling prety hard this year) and pretty much like about anything car related.
Thanks for having me and if you are ever in SE Iowa stop by and chat.
Just trying to find the energy to keep going on things... too much to do, not enough time...
I hear that loud and clear! Seems like the older I get the more I try to do in a day? Can't even sit down without feeling like I should be doing something - kinda why I haven't been on FTE much (that and it was often dreadfully slow loading).
LM14 - checked out your gallery. Good solid tin for Iowa. Like the rim choice on the 57. I've got a 63 - check my gallery - rebuilt the 292 and did a lot of custom work to the bed so far.
And with that, I'm gonna go work on putting new slats on the porch ceiling.
I am getting closer to having the Cummins back on the road, down to fabbing a shifter handle and putting the oil in the trans, as well as a few touch up things on the motor after getting rid of the auto trans cooler. Now that I have fully lost my mind trying to figure out where I put those parts...
