And also, what's a good brand for a replacement? Whatever's cheapest?
So is it good brand or cheapest? You can't have both when it comes to ball joints. You can get quality BJs like Spicers, or you can get some cheapies from AZ.
If you've never done em before it could take you a whole weekend. You being 4x4 makes it slightly more involved. You do have a book right?
Lower balljoints on a 94 4x.....How hard are they to change? Any pointers or words of advice are appreciated....

Sure, replace them with whatever's cheapest. Then plan on doing them again in 10,000 miles (if they don't shear first) and maybe you'll be a little smarter and spend the money to get quality parts.
Just like andym said, replace the uppers and lowers while you are in there. The NAPA ball joints are high quality. Use a ball joint tool, not a hammer.
I would also recomend replacing your outter axle joints at the same time. And if you have the money (which i know that Maine is one of the highest taxed states so you prob. dont) then i would spring for wheel bearings as well. But if nothing esle change all four at once.
I figured a catchy title would lure in some good responses
That link above is da shiz-nat!! Thanks andym!!
I see if the local stores have moog or spicer, and go with one of those two.
And def. gonna check everything while I'm in there and get it while its easy!!
I just got it inspected today, and the guy inspecting it said they were pretty sloppy, but my buddy that works there said they weren't too bad so I could get the sticker.....so I better change them before something falls off.
Another vote for Moog here. Its what i have in my mud truck. As far as greasable or not, you need to be honest w/ yourself. WILL you crawl under there every time after you go out muddin/plowing and regrease them? If not, i would say get the ungreasable. They will use a slightly better seal and come w/ water resistant grease.
