I just bought a 78 bronco that needs some rust repair on the rear quarter panels. I have seen various rust repair panels in catalogs and such that go anywhere from patches to full quarter panel. Any Idea about the quality and wheres the best price for these parts? I bought this bronco as a project for me to learn on. I am a novice when it comes to bodywork. What kind of basic tools will I need for this kind of project? Thanks for your help
Hey dude, hope this helps. Some suppliers I have used are "LMC truck" and "Autocrafters" they will have just about any repair panels you may need. As for tools and equipment, rotary cut off tool, mig welder, body hammer and general purpose dolly, weld through primer, metal snips, metal hole punch(for spot welds)and flanger, grinder, orbital sander, sanding block and long board. If you do a good job of fittng your panel and welding you shouldn't need very much filler.TIP- sheet metal warps VERY easily from heat. Weld no more than half inch at a time. Skip from one side of panel to the other to allow cooling. Use an air hose to remove heat from welds immediately after each weld. Take your time and be patient and you can save yourself thousands of dollars. Just remember, autobody reqiures great skill and craftsmanship.
