Smile 66 240 Vibration Damper

I'm looking for a 66 240 single groove vibration damper. Anyone know the part number for this item? (and by anyone I suppose I mean NumberDummy). Anyone parting out a 240? The only source I can find is DamperDoctor and the price (100 bucks )seems high to me. There is one on ebay that might work for about a fourth of the price but it has two grooves. Would it throw the balance off somehow to use a two groove pulley or would that be okay? Also, I've never pulled the damper off before. Will a regular wheel puller do the trick?

Using a 2 groove will not unbalance it as the 240/300 is internally balanced. 100 bucks is about what new dampers cost.

C5AZ6312G .. Harmonic Balancer-Single Sheave / Obsolete / Fits: 1965/71 240 I-6.

C5UZ6312A .. Harmonic Balancer-Double Sheave / Marked: C4RA-6316-B / Obsolete / Fits: 1965/67 240 I-6.

No Ford Dealer or obsolete parts vendor has either one.

If an obsolete parts vendor did have one of these balancers NOS, you'd pay one hell of a lot more than 100 bucks!

Thanks... Think I'll keep checking ebay for this one, and maybe try the junkyard.

ND, I cross referenced the part number you gave me to the powerbond catalog here:

On page 111, it lists FORD part number C5AZ6312G as powerbond part# PB1008N

Strangely, though, the catalog says it's for a 63-68 Ford 289.

I googled powerbonds part number and found this one on ebay for $59.

---http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-289-1963-1968-Powerbond-balancer-damper-PB1008N_W0QQitemZ330304447318QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ 20090131?IMSfp=TL0901311110007r32753

But it also says it's for a 289. Is it possible the balancer on the 289 and the 240 are identical, or has powerbond got it wrong here?

Well, comparing the picture in powerbond's catalog to the one on damperdoctor's website I can see the two are quite a bit different. Damerdoctor lists a part's reference as 65-74 #C5AE-B1B2 C8AE-B2 Is that a Ford number?

C5AE-B1B2 should be C5AE-B1 or B2.

Both are the ID numbers for C5AZ6312A (EDIT: no one has this one either) which was replaced by C5AZ6312G.

C8AE-B2 is the ID number for C5AZ6312G.

Parts catalog sez C5AZ6312G, the single sheave pulley I listed in post #3, was not used after 1971.
