I have a 93 ranger with the 4.0 mtx. COming out of the y pipe it isnt round. I am looking to see if any one has ran pipe off of this. I cant fit anything on there. Is there maybe a company that makes something that works. I dont want to run true duals so I need to keep the y pipe.
Thanks
what I did was made a plate that attached to the flange on the Y then I squeeshed down the end of a 3" pice of exhaust pipe and welded it to the plate.
sounds like he wants to do away with the converter and run straight pipe in its place. its much easier to use the converter as a mounting point, if its plugged, a 4' section of thin wall 1" pipe will easily punch a hole through the catalyst, do it a couple of times and you'll have a 2" passage with the converter not hollowed out, it will still look stock if you have a visual inspection to deal with, may or may not pass the "sniffer' check, but you may not have that to worry about in your area. i never said it was legal, but i will say it works.
guy that did my system made a piece of tailpipe fit by forming it to fit the oval and then welding it on used the flange from the cat to the Y pipe to bolt onto. Not a big deal took him about 20-30 minutes of fiddlin with to get done.
The cat is rusted and I am looking to bypass it. It will still pass inspection. They don’t care about emissions here older than 96. So I want to just put in a piece of pipe where the converter is. It is an after market cat so there are no flanges it is just welded on. I can bend a pipe to fit and weld it but I would like (if they make one) a piece that works.
The cat is rusted, dude, thats stainless steel. Yeah it tuns brown and pits, but t should take a very long time to really rust. If its not plugged, I would just leave it.
So you are saying the stock flanges are gone? If thats the case, we have pre-formed y-pipes that may work, but your circumstances need to be perfect to use them. They are intended for systems built from scratch.
