I have a 2006 F250 Super Duty 6.0 crew cab. Do I have a block heater installed on this engine? I did see where you can buy an electric cable for the block heater and that site said Ford installed the block heater when they built the engine but if it wasn't an "option" item, it did not come with the electric cable. It was not listed as an "option" item when I bought the truck in 2006. So, do I have an engine block heater or not?? Also where would it be located on the engine block and what will it look like if it is installed??

As I understand it, all 6.0L engines have a block heater, but only some of them have the cord. As I also understand it, if you look in the passenger side fender well at the engine, under the starter, you will see the block heater. You may have to move some shrouds. It is also apparently common for there to be a block heater cord, that is well enough hidden up behind the passenger side front bumper near the two hook, that it is very hard to find.
If you do a search on block heater in the 6.0L forum, you should find a lot of information and I seem to recall at least one thread with pictures. And look very carefully around the front passenger side bumper. You may find the block heater plug hidden up around there somewhere.
All 6.0L engines came with the block heater installed in the block. In order to get the chord with 110V plug in you had to add the block heater option for $30 (unless you lived in certain states that Ford felt had to have the block heater, then the chord was free).
Look behind your bumper near the tow hooks and see if you already have the chord installed. It may have a cap on the end so you won't necessarily see the 3 prong plug, but just a heavy wire with a loose end.
If you don't have it go down to the 6.0L forum and do a search. The part number and instructions to install the chord have been posted numerous times.
and get the cord from napa, or other parts store not a dealer. price difference is crazy. Im all for oem parts but this is just a wire!
So true. If you find you don't have the cord, also check Ebay. Good prices there also. And as was said, all 6.0 engines were manufactured with the block heater element already in place.
Thanks everybody for all of the great information!! I will look for it tonight after work. If I don't have the 110v electric cord, I will take your advise and shop around for the best price.
