I don' think that is new. Think back to a 97 F150. GVW of 6,000lbs that year. Now I knw those trucks wer lighter than the 04+ but I'm sure with 5 real dudes in their they'd be over too.

There was a mssive thread about this but basicly what they show as the payload when you do build and price or read paper work is infact not the payload you get in your truck. No matter how you build my truck there's now way you can get the payloads they say can be had. SO you have to look into the payload before you buy. Could be 600lbs less than it shows on the web site for the spec you build.

I just bought a XTR, 5.4,SCREW 4x4 power bench, 18 in P rated allseasons.
Door sticker says 1417 lbs payload. That is passengers plus tounge weight and cargo.(total 1470 permitted)
If you look the extra heavy duty package includes E rated 17 inch tires, but that truck is sprung differently to accomodate E tires.
You put E tires at max preasure on a normally sprung truck and you won't like it nor will the electronic components on the truck as they get slammed arround pretty bad.
Also I don't know if the stock aluminum rims and valve stems are rated for E rated tire preasures...up to 80 psi.

P vs LT tire load ratings...

18" P rated Goodyear Wrangler SR-A: 2601 lbs max load rating
18" LT (C) rated Goodyr Wrangler AT/S: 2535 lbs max load rating
17" LT (c) Goodyear Wrangler AT/SFX4) 2,600 lbs max load rating

Just for comparson I add my current tire:
18" LT (E) Toyo Open Country A/T: 3,415 lbs max load rating

Not a big diff amoung stockers there. The big shocker though... The factory 18" LTs have a LOWER max load than the other P rated 18"s???

If I add them all up I don't get it. Rear axle max is what... 4,000lbs yet thats still less than max tire load rating, even for the lowest ranked Pirellis. So what gives? Hopefully a tall forehead can explain to me.
I know I'm very late to this thread, but when P rated tires are used on a truck application, the max load rating is to be REDUCED by 9%. This is part of the DOT requirements.

The LT tires already have the 9% load reduction built into their max load rating. So the LT's actually do have a higher load capacity than all the P's....

Did anyone figure this all out. I ordered a Lariat with 20" and after reading many posts am wondering if I should have ordered the 3.73 rear axle because of the bg tires. But this forces me into the Max Trailer tow $940. Minus the Trailer brake controller (which is what I ordered) this leaves an additional $700. If the 20" already come with the upgraded rear springs then are the remaining options worth it? What is the normal sterring gear ratio and is the upgraded rear bumper much different than the regular? What is the front eye bushing? Any help would be appreciated. By the way I have a brake controller on my currrent truck that I have never used in 10 years as all my trailers are single axle, but I put it in, in case I needed to pull some friends trailers.
