New wheel / diff options and opinions
Guys I am looking at ordering a new 6.7 F350 lariat. Probably a '15.
I am having one big issue with picking 18 or 20 inch wheels. OWL AT for tires in both sizes.
LT 275 70 18 w/alloy are stock. 33.2 tall, 3.31 or 3.55 rears.
LT 275 65 20 w/alloy 34.1 tall are $1200 more, available only with 3.55 rears, and now is my real gripe $80 to $100 more per for replacement.
Is ride an issue with 20's over 18's? There is and extra half inch of sidewall in the 18's.
I will admit that the 20's look better to me because they are 1 inch taller. But I just can't get over the up front of $1200 for the rims and then another $400 a set more to replace.
I did a little gearhead wheel speed figuring and the 18's with a 3.31 are 3 mph faster than the 20's with 3.55. Maybe just a little better unloaded MPG's?
Wich for me will be most of the time. Tire specs from Tirerack, what a great site
Right now I'm thinking 18's with 3.31's. If I really want to spend that $1200 I believe I'm better off to spend $1400 on the chrome package get the chrome clad 18's, running boards and all the other chrome trinkets that I don't really care about. To that point do the chrome clads hold up to salt better than the alloys?
Anybody have some life experiences and opinions on this? spinning in circles here
