Just curious to see why people drive IDI's instead of other diesel Fords (or any diesel). Just say why you drive your IDI..............
I guess I'll start. I drive two. I bought them because they are extremely reliable and parts are fairly cheap compared to PSD's (example-IDI injector: $45, PSD Injector: $230.) I also drive IDI's because I'm a die-hard Ford Fan and won't buy any other diesel truck.
I have an IDI becuase I wanted a diesel and it had to be ford. There is also the fact that I completely detest computers in any vehicle (even the old duraspark systems). So it had to be an IDI and a 6.9 cuz I love dependability.
Because I was needin a new truck fast, since I was gettin water in the oil in my F100, and my boss sold me my 88 for $600, and that included 2 tires for the back and 2 Interstate 1050's.
So far I've invested less in this truck than either one of my other two Fords. So far I've just put a lift pump on her and a 3 sets of GP's, but the first two sets weren't beru's so those didn't count, and I got my dinero back for those.
I wanted a CrewCab and I'm not into long-term relationships with computer controlled diesels.
Dodge's CrewCabs are ALL computerized and their post '85 CrewCabs are either too small or too big.
I wasn't sure I wanted a Ford diesel so I bought a gasser first and then came across this site while looking for info on IDIs.
I like my '94 turbo well enough I'm not in any big hurry to build a 12V Cummins-Dodge CC.
I bought the '86 because I wanted a "tool truck" and came across a good deal.
their post '85 CrewCabs are either too small or too big.
my 85 on the inside is huge how could the be to small
Read it again and you'll figure it out.
I was talking about Dodge CrewCabs.
The newer ones in the 3/4 and 1-tons are too small (QuadCab) or too big (MegaCab). The brand new 1/2 ton CrewCab is right sized though. The HDs should be that body style next year but they are even worse than computerized, they have those freakin' particulate filters too.
