I am having some shifting problems that i am looking for some help with.
I seem to only have a problem with the 1-2 shift. Tranny will not shift unless you let off the gas (well, 1 out of 10 times it shifts ok). I have engine braking when in 1st gear. I'm not sure that this sounds like the common valve body gasket fix, so i am looking for some insight. Please help!
PS. All other gears shift fine, OD light blinks, and has some codes (which i dont remember)
Torque converter is not stalling fast enough to shift. If you have to let off the gas to let it shift then the converter is either low on fluid or is going bad. Have that checked out. But you also have to take in to consideration that the engine brake may be effecting it too. Other then that the only other thing I can think of is a tranns problem between first and second. Have the tranns checked for leaks and for fluid level and also try to clean out the valve body. Could be dirty. May fix it but wont know till you try. If that is not the problem either have the tranny replaced or repaired at a shop. Good luck!
The flashing OD light is telling you that the computer has seen a problem with the transmission. A scanner will be needed to retrieve the codes stored in the computer, this will be the first step in diagnosing the transmission problem.
Based on your description of the problem it sounds like the intermediate band is broken. It is a common problem with this transmission, and that also means that it will have to be rebuilt. When the gasket blows out it usually causes a flare on the shift rather than a late shift or missing gear.
