Interior Light assembly for '90 Ranger XLT

Wanting to modify or change the interior light assembly of my '90 Ranger XLT. Problem: there's no way (short of wedging some foreign object between the door and the spring-loaded trigger) to turn off the interior light while keeping my doors in an open position. I don't want to pop the light's cover and pull the bulb either.

Question: is it possible to install a 3-position light assembly from a non-Ford derivative (ie: Mazda)? Are there aftermarket products for this purpose, and if so, is there a website or phone number to call? Looking for ideas, please.

I assume that you are trying to work on the light itself and don't want it to be powered while you do so. If that's the case then you should just disconnect the battery, and then reconnect it when you are done.

In my '73 I just took it out with it hot, it won't hurt anything, worst is you may blow a fuse if you short it out, not that big of a deal.

Any light that you like and that will fit is an option. With a little imagination, almost anything is possible.
