78-79 pitman arm

I am in the process of swapping over to the 78-79 steering system. I thought I read you could use the 77 pitman arm and found out that was wrong. Guess I should have done a little better research. Anyways, my local salvage yard doesn't have any 78-79 4x4 trucks but they do have an 86, is the pitman arm the same or were they changed? I have been looking all weekend and haven't found much. Heck, does anyone out there have one they could part with? Thanks!

Andy, you're right, the 77 pitman arm won't work. I did this same swap on my 77. You need the 78-79 arm, they changed them in 80. Just an idea, call Jeff's Bronco Graveyard and ask the question over the phone. They may have one available, just not listed in the catalog. It would be used but what the heck, it doesn't have a ball joint on it like the 76-77's.

I am swapping out to a drop pitman arm in my 78 for the lift. So if you can't find one let me know and I could send you one when I replace mine.

No the one I have is off a 3/4 ton. Haven't been around many 1/2 tons so I wasn't sure if there was much difference. If there isn't a difference let me know but if there is I won't be of much help.

Well I guess that answers the question of the 250 arm fitting on my 77 steering box.

Mark A. If you've still got a pitman arm for the 78/79 steering box that you would part with, I need one. Am converting my 75 F 250 4x4 assist steering to the 78/79 f 250 4x4 power steering. Bought that steering box, but it came without the pitman arm.

Also can anyone who's done the conversion this way tell me about drag link length?

Thanks

Steven
