pop3 email issues

pop3 email issues
I've got a pop3 email account that all of a sudden, thunderbird, nor OE cannot connect to. (the connection is refused) I can however access the account via its webmail interface. Any ideas?

Have you checked the account settings.. Sounds like a security setting is off..
Might also look at the firewall you are running, If any, to see if that is blocking the connection...

I've checked every setting I can think of, Even deleted and recreated the account.
I did find this page
University Computer Support Services (UCSS)
its my old college account. Maybe they are phasing out pop3?
I can hook up to the imap server but I dont really want to use it.

yea, thats the thing, I can log in via webmail, and I know other people who have graduated who still use it as well. (I'm in the process of checking with them to see if they can access the pop server)

My POP account with gmail is SSL secured and has been since it's inception. I don't know if SSL secured POP accounts are becoming more popular or not, but perhaps your provider has switched over to it and is no longer allowing unsecured connections.
