replace that cable end, do a voltage drop test on all of the battery cables, check the fluid levels in the batts too, charge the battery and retest. possibly what you heard running was the vaccuum pump, its just behind the passenger battery i believe. i believe in fixing the small cheap things before i reccomend replacing expensive parts. when injectors fail you should be able to see it on a scanner for the first couple minutes on the first start of the day. if it don't code don't waste money. i believe in the scientific method not the throw parts at it method. i just don't understand any tech whether its car, truck, motorcycle, whatever who says i don't have proof but lets change these real expensive parts on your dime and see if it helps, oh by the way you can't return them once the box is open. i really do not like being the techs guinnepig
I guess you should listen to this guy instead... he seems real confident on the issue. its not like i have the actual truck to daig my self that would be different but im giving him ideas, thats all. good luck any way tho let us know what it is.
i'm not saying it isn't injectors, but i have seen a couple guys who threw 1000's of $ dollars at computers and sensors. they were convinced to to take it to another tech, who suggested, "plugs wires, rotor, and cap" owner called tech a fool, but when he went home and did it he solved all his problems( not me just heard it from the tech who was doing other stuff for me)we have here a known issue of damaged battery cable end, if one is bad more could be poor, at the age corrosion could have spread to the cable. it takes five minutes with a multimeter in his own driveway to check for VD.then after he has corrected the simple, cheap stuff he can reevaluate and see if it helped. noticed the battery that tested low but good was the same one with the bad end, if it was offgassing enough to corrode it could also be low on water. along time ago when i was learning about computer controlled engines our instructor told us there was a tendency to just blame the computer. however when you looked closer it would be something stupid like corrosion in a sensor wire, or oil in an injection harness on a 6.0l ford . we have all heard of the last haven't we? hmmm haven't we been having a lot of talk lately about bad batteries taking out alternators and FICM's?not to mention they could leave shutdown when he needs the truck. its just good maintenance to check it out even if it turns out to have nothing to do with his problem
Fix the problem with your batteries just to take care of that but while the trucks running the batteries dont have anything to do with it, its the alternator/s that are running the truck and charging the batteries, as far as the glow plugs your tech should be able to hook up and IDS (fords diagnostic software) and you can look at the voltage the glow plugs are getting with KOEO, and they actually are on for a little bit after the engine is running.
I also agree with nitrogen user checkin the simple stuff first is always a cheap and easy way to eliminate stuff that could make you sick when replace big $$$ stuff and find out its some simple fix
Night and day!!! Yesterday morning it was about 35 degrees and I had block heater plugged in and it started rough again took about 10-15 minutes to warm up enough to run good so I took it to ford and had them reflash the pcm went home at about 2pm yest. afternoon let sit until this morning about 30 degrees without plugging in the block heater started the truck and never missed one second, smooth as can be sat for a minute until automatic choke came on let it run another minute put it in drive and perfecto!! I was thinking when I had the new FICM put in my truck it was an independent shop and he may not have programmed it correctly. Ford told me the reflash was for the PCM and the FICM so I figured this would cover any mistakes he might have made. Whether he messed up the FICM programming or the PCM really makes this much of a difference I don't know but hallelujah!!! Anyone having similiar cold start issues go get this done don't listen to people crying about fuel mileage because loosing a mile per gallon sure beats your truck having morning sickness and waiting 20 minutes until you can get on the road!
04's I don't thing have an automatic choke, at least mine never before but I drove a couple newer f250's an 06 then an 07 and they had an automatic choke when its cold outside now after the reflash so does mine.
Nothing with fuel injection has a chocke. If you have a carb in your 04...you may have a choke. As for the 04 I had it didnt have a choke. The last car I drove with a choke was my 86 Grand Prix. I think what you mean is the high idle feature which is built into the PCM programming...and yes you had it before.
hmmmm automatic choke is this a new feature on diesels teehee. first diesel with a choke, just more emission stuff or what. JK. i'm guessing he meant fast idle

My truck is a cold runner in the morning, I'll get it reflashed soon. However...the "morning sickness" comment raised an eyebrow. Could I be expecting?? Maybe a little Ranger??
