Looking at an intercooler for my 96, trying to figure out the best source. Any suggestions for a particular aftermarket set, or if I can use one from a later year, as coustom fab work is no major problem to me. Just trying to be efficient and cost effective at the same time. Any suggestions or things youve already done would be appreciated.
The best bang for your buck would be a take out intercooler from a 6.0 or 7.3 Souper Dooty. Your local junkyard and ebay are both good sources for them. Here are a few web pages that I used for guidance when I did mine:
so i was talking to a kid about the intercooler i am looking at and he said that if i don't tune my truck to compensate for the intercoller i'd crack the block and/or heads in like 10k miles. he said he saw a post about it on this site a couple of weeks ago, but i doubt it cuase i've got PMS bad and have spent a day in four months not reading on this site.

That's the first I've EVER heard of that. That's kinda strange if you ask me. The only way that could happen is if you condensed so much H2O out of the system that it hydrolocked the cylinders. I think that's darn near impossible considering the delta T (temperature differential across the intercooler) on one of these units. Just not enough of a temp. drop and there'd have to be an awful lot of moisture in the air. Enough to make it tough to breath... Even so, the tuning really would have very little to do with that???????? (increase amount of fuel in the cylinders to bring up combustion temp, which would then negate the intercooler!!) Now I'm curious where that lack of logic came from.
