I live in a suburb of Houston and we recently had a new Walmart open up near our home. I've gone to the store a few times and finally realized that at least 50% of the workers hail from Africa. This seems very odd to me. These jobs have to be low paying so how can Walmart afford to bring in foreign workers and how can the foreign workers afford to live here on a Walmart wage?
Just because the people working at Wal Mart don't have the same skin color as you, does not mean they don't have the legal right to work in the United States. For all you know, they could be a naturalized citizen, first-generation citizen, resident alien, or even have a visa. Just because they are from a foreign country does not mean they're here illegally.
If you're not concerned that they are here illegally, then what problem do you have with Africans working at Wal Mart? If they have the legal right to work there, why are you concerned?
I didn't say 50% of them are first generation citizens. I listed four ways to work here legally and that list is far from complete.
I used to live in Houston, and it's regarded as one of the most diverse cities in the country. Get used to it.
Do you have reading comprehension problems? I'm asking how Walmart can afford to bring them to this country to work? I don't give a shyte about who they are or what they look like. I'm trying to understand the economics of it. You freakin Austin libs have only one thing on your mind.
Your assumption is that Wal Mart is supporting them to work here based on skin color alone. You have no formal proof that Wal Mart is doing so. Do you have logic problems?
I thought your first post was pretty closed-minded to begin with, but that last line sealed the deal.
I know up here before the recession they were bringing Mexican workers up like crazy to try and fill the labour void we had up here in Alberta. I don't think they will be doing so as much since we are supposed to lose 15 000(chump change really) jobs in Alberta this year. The government has programs to help companies that do this out I believe, up here.
When you talk to someone, and there is a definite language barrier, it's a pretty good indication there's not from here, regardless of color.
Wal-fart didn't bring them here, the UN did. They are most likely refugees from central or western Africa. Better to have them working than not, ya know?

Thank you for providing an intelligent comment. I never had thought of the UN being involved in bringing folks to the U.S.
These workers are not refugees of the expected kind. They are economic tools. There are labor brokers who arrange for foreign labor to come to America for a fixed time period. They supply the majority of the housekeeping staff for the casinos here in Mississippi. The workers are on work visas. They have to return to their home country at the end of the contracted period. They live in arranged housing that the broker bills them for and takes directly out of their salary. They often live in crowed conditions of 3 or 4 to a bedroom. They receive little or no benefits. If they should even think about some sort of labor organizing they are on the next plane out of the country. This is the best opportunity that many of them will ever have to earn money. Any money that they have left above expenses is wired back home to support their families. Another company that uses this type of labor is the Disney Company.
