I had installed the borla cat back on a standard cab 02 F350 V10 4x4 and it fit perfect even though the directions said it fit the extended cab/crew cab only. Later when I bought an 01 F250 V8 rwd standard cab truck, I put the old cat back system from the V10 on the V8 truck and it also fit perfectly. The v8/v10 cat backs are the same .
I just put a kit on from Dynomax/Walker. It's a cat back for the 5.4 and it's a single muffler with dual tailpipes out under the bumper. They offer a super single too with a 4" pipe out the passenger quarter. It helped the performance a little but my superchips flashpaq really woke it up. I ordered that kit along with one of their Ultraflo mufflers, got a nice rumble to it now.
yeah i wanna go subtle single side exit
so probably just muff anything come close to original dimension
i guess main concern would be length and be it round
If you want subtle I'd go with a Flowmaster 70 series or long Magnaflow...
For a little more volume a 50 series or shorter Magnaflow. Center inlet/offset out with a short piece of pipe to make up the difference should fit the bill.
I wanted dual tailpipes and a little more sound from my truck. I had a Flowmaster on my Chevy 8.1 and it sounded awesome. Wasn't sure what would sound right on my Ford as Flowmaster offers so many choices. I took a gamble and went with the super 40's, one step down from their loudest. I thought the truck was going to sound like a jet engine from 5 ft away, but when it was started, I couldn't believe how quiet it was. Seems the ford cats muffle alot of sound. The truck is a little more quiet than I wanted but acceptable. The chevy's use a less restrictive cat, hence the louder sound.
