I got a 89 f250 4.9 l 4wd... it all started this morning went to start it and the starter stayed engaged so i quickly popped the hood and took the batt terminal off..so i had a spare solinoid replaced it started and worked fine.. then on my way out of town going up some big hills i smelt clutch burning smell.. and by the time i could pull over i had no clutch at all within the matter of minutes i had no clutch. It still starts and the clutch pedal isnt soft but just wont shift at all. the clutch resivoir has fluid but it looks like it has a silver murky tinge to it.I can put it in 1st gear without touching the gas and doesnt move the truck....so i was wondering if u guys have any ideas? and if its the clutch what else i should replace while the trannys out? thanks
I have a 91 250 diesel. I am on the 3rd radiator replacement because the seams on the radiator are failing. Any ideas? I am thinking possibly the flex in the suspension is too tight (maybe bad design?) and there is a way to "soft" mount the radiator rather than the hard mount to the body as designed by Ford. Sure would appreciate the input.
first (I'm guessing you have the M50D tranny) I would pull the inspection plug on the tranny and get a helper to push the clutch while you look in the bellhousing with a flashlight to make sure that the clutch slave is actually pushing the pressure plate. Then go from there. Because you may have more issuses than you think.
Either way--bad clutch or bad slave---same job-same parts---get a good kit --not the auto zone junk--worth a few extra bucks--I agree with 1TIM1 --do the rear main---AND check the rear freeze plugs for rust while you are in there----I did my 96 4x4 in my driveway last august--took me about 8 hours total--my slave had seized on the input shaft and wouldn't allow full pressure on the clutch--
