hi there i'm helping a friend that has a stock 99 7.3.He got the truck about 4months ago he is new to the diesel world. it started with idle problems like the lights are on BUT no one is home. it will run fine till it idles then it just lays down. next stop it will be fine? any hue here are the codes that i pulled
6 p1280 i think this one was me (pulled the icp plug)
5 p0472 should i clean the sensor and the tube?
4 p0475
3 p0603 not to worried about(right)
2 p1316 is the idm going south(bad)
1 p0221 is this sold seperate or is it the whole pedal assy
found out that the truck was a RANCH TRUCK lots of mud and a little beat up
The two you should focus on are the P1280 and the P1316.
The P1280 points to an ICP problem. Could be a bad sensor, unplugging it will tell you for sure. If it runs better with the electrical harness unplugged, then the sensor is bad.
The P1316 means that there are codes stored in the IDM. These codes will usually point to injectors or a bank of injectors that is causing a problem. The only certain scanners can pull those codes.
I'd guess the 1280 happened when you unplugged the ICP. Every time I've unplugged that sensor, it's thrown a 1280.
1316 means you need to do some more tests as Curtis mentioned. Can you do a CCT and buzz test? The other option would be to ohm the connectors at the valve covers. The most common issue we see that throws a 1316 code is a loose connector under the valve cover.
