I know this may sound crazy but my expy acted the same way and it turned out to be the battery even though everything else was lighting up. the telltale sign was when i turned the ignition key to the start position, all the gauges would reset back to the original position as if the key were off. has something to do with the voltage going to the computer. even the headlights and horn worked. put a new battery in and all was well.

IM GOING TO TRY THAT TOMORROW! ill buy a new 1 and if it doesnt work then return it! im looking for any option out there. thanks a lot and rep!!
You may want to try to measure voltage before, during and after a crank... sometime the battery can be full voltage, and with a load will kill off the rest of the charge.....
I have a dead lawnmower battery now..and it click,click,clicks.
Future advise,,,, trust the old timers here.. not the autozone....
cool,
1. Buy a wirebrush terminal cleaner,
2. Check your grounds and check the battery to harness connections, sometimes they corrode and dont make good contact.... cleaning followed by a alot of solder will help this....Some of this was mentioned above..
3. Buy a Haynes or Chilton manual, they are OK, and the $20 investment will pay for its self in saved repair costs.
FT.com is awesome.... the first thing i do when i have a problem is search.
A few things i have learned from this site...this is OT, but may help you in the future.
*Does your Odometer work or blink on and off ?? there is a fix, one of the best things i have learned from here..
*Does you 99 mirrors look like the surface of the moon and seem to be seperating from The back side,,, you can send them back and get replacements.
*Does the overhead light does not turn off or on? door open switch stay on? WD40 in the lil blk switch fixes it.
*CEL 0401, EGR related, check/ replace the DPFE sensor..or check for EGR valve port crap stopping it up...
*How to change your plugs, I have a 4.6, but hear the 5.4 is a beeooch
*Your plugs may blow out of the threads, check them...
*Is your rear speaker blown, several threads on how to fix, I need to do mine.
*Getting bad gas milage, several threads on this.
yeah im rambling, but the point is that FT rocks, and be sure to try to contribute something in the future, it only makes this site, better...
look under dash are there all kids of wires hanging or cut that dont look like they belong reason i say is you stated you bought a week ago
maybe previous owner had security system or remote start
dealers remove or disconect sometimes not completly
and just discard remote control
when not completly removed they can come back and haunt
hey guys we put a volt meter on the battery and it is fine but when we try to turn on the car the battery lose all the power to 0. and when take it back it gets back yo 11.*

I'm new to the party, but thought I caught up. But did you replace the battery, and it is the new battery that is dropping to 0 when you crank it. And did you ever get the engine to move, like by turning the crank with the breaker bar? I think I missed some posts.
You also, I believe, said it tries to crank the engine, like one quick, short turn, and then stops, correct?
I am just trying to figure out where you are right now.
Are you connecting the meter to the actual battery posts or to the cable terminals? If it's the terminals you could have a bad connection from the terminal to the battery post. If however, you're getting the drop to 0 volts while connected to the battery posts, then it's a bad battery.

it was getting to 0 and i just tried again and says 5.* and we took the battery to autozone and it was good!
